The video is about the Arctic climate melting because of global warming so maybe that is the reality he is trying to make better by dreaming (the lie).

I say the same as above about the arctic circle. But also how about people are ignoring it. Jared is trying to say Listen up! The Ice caps are melting but the news are just feeding us lies.Lies like "oh its not THAT bad!" or "Dont worry! We can fix it!" Or "LOOK! Natural resources!!" A.K.A "Beautiful Lies"

I think it's quite ridiculous thinking that song's about the arctic climate. Honestly, 'hide behind an empty face', 'everyone's looking at me'? Kiddin' me? It's about a pro-ana girl... They like to have anorexia and those kinds of eating disorders and they lie to all their relatives and friends about their life... Trust me, I was one of them ;)

Truly just a guess but probably about love and how most people will believe in anything to create an illusion of sanctuary for themselves. It comes down to the fact that we are in love with the very THOUGHT of being in love, rather than being actually passionate.

Yeah its like saying were in denial of different masks we put on though each day, we might look happy to someone, when in fact were sad or scared, the perfect denial being that too, because it is a perfect denial, no one knows, the only one that knows is you when your all alone in bed thinking about it

As an interpretation from the video clip as well as the lyrics I believe it's about how governments over the world have been denying for years how bad global warming is actually getting and telling people it's fine (the lie).

Was listening to a German radio podcast interview, with 30 seconds to mars. They asked what it meant and they said it was about South Africa, and the period from 2000 to now.

I read an article where jared said he wrote this song as he was in south africa and saw the bad living conditions of the poor people in the slums or suburbs in contrast to the life that rich people in the big cities are living. Beautiful lie means, that there's only a beautiful facade...and a synonym for facade is face...hide behind an empty face...that means that they want only to pretend a nice appearance for the tourists and in reallity thousands of people are dying because they've got nothing to eat...

I find all the 30 seconds to mars songs very difficult to interpret. However, I think I have a vague understanding of this one. But I'm not sure. Jared Leto is gay right? Well it could be to do with someone hiding their sexuality, and how although not being able to admit the truth is hard, the consequences e.g. homophobes, could result in worse pain and exclusion form some circles. The "Beautiful Lie" could be the denial, or even having a relationship with a woman to hide it. "Hide behing an empty face.." hiding behind a false image. "aqquring desperation" not being able to tell the truth, or feel comfortable with himslef. May be all wrong, but hey what the hell!

I think this song is based off of all America, or the world in general, and how we choose to ignore what is really going on around us. Like how we continue to ignore how we're really screwing up this world and how we're all being lied to...and we all just believe it cause we don't want to see what is really in front of us. We're all just too ignorant and stupid and shallow and scared to really see. Or at least the government is...

It ALL depends on the person hearing the song as to how they are really going to "hear" it. Its all about whats gone on in your life.. its YOUR mind telling you what you WANT to hear in a song.

I think it´s about climate... So... as other had spoke about, yeah, anyone can identify different meanings about a song´ lyrics. What I see in the video is that images showed in there are about Climate and lies told by other ppl about something. And be cool... dont have to aggravate other ppl `cause what they think is different from what you think.

I find the song and the music video really contradictory. The video is about stoping global warming but the song is about not believing in a "beautiful lie" So then wouldn't it be telling you that Global warming is just that "Beautiful lie" and is just a lie people want you to believe in to get money or apriciation.

I agree with the person who called you fools, the song is supposed to personl and interpreted by you. it would be sad if songs were about specific things, because then we couldn't hold them so close. and by the way, if you want to believe it's about the arctic circle (probably because the vid shows it), that's your choice. but im telling you, its up to you to decide what it means for You.

guys..this song has not a certain meaning...for everyone of u it could mean something else. ok my story: a couple of years ago i started to think about suicide. i put on a mask to hide my real feeelings about life. i was funny...on the facade.laughed all the time. but there where signs that showed what i felt that time. nobody saw them.because they wanted to life the lie..it was easier for em that way
