30 Seconds To Mars: The Kill Meaning

The Kill Lyrics

What if I wanted to break
Laugh it all off in your face
What would you do? (Oh, oh)
What if I fell to the floor
Couldn't take this anymore
What would you do, do, do?

Come break me down
Marry me, bury me
I am finished with you

What if...

This song sucks... It's emo, so no interpretation is necessary to understand it. It's a sad piece of crap complaining even though he's semi rich and famous to all of the emo/preppy posers who think they know what music is.

Listen to some good music people. Proggressive rock, then maybe your eyes will be opened to what music is.

well... I agree that the song it telling about accepting urself, also the thing of a hiden personality, that you don't want to accept, mm... I don't agree the thing of going crazy, because I think that if you go crazy, you can't notice it, you can't say you r crazy if you r crazy, maybe (this is for the ppl that said jared said that this song for about going mad) he just told it in a wrong way, with worng words...
mm... but also... I agree with the thing of being gay, I mean, maybe he learnt that being gay is a "wrong thing" (dont think I'm gay hey! XD), but he feel attraction for his own sex, and then he tries to oppress these feelings, because what he have learnt. Hehe I don't know, its just what I think hehe ^^
also, maybe someone can help me.... I don't understand this part of the video, when some dude, or maybe I'm blind, but someone is dressed with a bear suit??!!! XDXD, and he is kneeling, and then the other guy (hey the group is new for me so I don't know their names) appears, watcing the guitarrist in his skate board
can someone explain this to me?

He did an acoustic version of the song on MTV and said, "This is a song called 'The Kill'. But don't be scared, it's a nice song....about losing your mind."

    Check out the video...

i think that he is talking about himself to himself. There isn't really a person there except himself. "I tried to be someone else but nothing seems to change I know now, this is who I really am inside finally found myself fighting for a chance I know now this is who I really am.... He drove himself crazy trying to fit in with everything and everyone else and realized that he was better off the way he started. He likes who he is and doesn't have to try to be someone else.. He knows that it doesn't work that way... He can't be someone he's not.
-that is why in the video he is fighting himself....

sigh......so everyone is saying how it's about a girl and a boy. Well I think it's about just any type of relationships. It could be about a child wanting to be accepted by their parent. basically it's about having two personalities and always having to hide a part of your self because people don't always accept who you really are as a whole. sometimes it kills people to know that they have to hide because the think they won't be accepted. Then people get tiered of hiding and end up pushing people away by being mean

Duh you stupid bastards!!!! Jared Leto is as straight as a crooked circle!!! the song is about coming out of the closet. No Doubt.

Did you know he recently came out of the closet just after this song and video was released.
Jared Leto packs the fudge, that simple!!!
By the way a great song, even though he is gay...

And yes they are friends but they are both also amazing actors that get way more girls than you ever will. Also He was engaged to some hot ass celebrity whome I can't remember her name right now.

ohhh and I also wanted to add that Jared Leto doesn't act in Brokeback Mountain, Jake Gyllenhaal does.. So maybe you can keep on trying with the gay thing.. pretty funny!!

The director of ''the shining'' is Stanley Kubrick, not Stephen King, and I agree with the fact that they took the idea of the film, which took place in hotel.I think the group tried to relate the video to the film in order to make us understand the real meaning of the song. The lyrics say it all, it's about going crazy and looking for who you really are, fighting with something else(inside of yourself)... That's pretty deep but that's also what this film's all about. The principal character, Jack Nicholson, goes totally insane. If you haven't seen it, rent it!!! It's a total work of art!!

To everyone who believes what leto has said with this song having to do with trying to find himself, I don't hear any of that, don't involve the video in deciphering the meanings to lyrics because they usually have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Besides, if that's what it all means then that takes all the fun out of me sitting there and crying to this song because I cannot relate to losing my mind, many men but never the mind! At least not yet!!! My meaning is better! Im keeping it!

This song is pretty sad. I think it's about a relationship that has come to an end. He has done everything to make this relationship work and then some. He gives and gives and they only take. This person is abusive, constantly making him feel unwanted, inadequate, unappreciated, like nothing he ever did for them was enough and that he can no longer take the misery of their relationship and he wants out. There is a lot of pain through these lyrics. When he says, "you say you wanted more, what are you waiting for, Im not running from you" I think he's telling them to go ahead, end it already, look for someone better, try to find it because he's sick of never being enough for them and he's done with all of it. When he says "Come break me down, bury me, bury me" he's just saying he wants it to end because he tries and tries to please them and never succeeds. He has had it with never being enough and there's nothing else left in him to continue this. He knows its gonna end eventually. It was over before it even started. When he says "All I wanted was you" he's saying he loved them, he tried to be everything for them and all they ever had to do was love him back and they never did. Basically, this is someone saying that they did everything in their power to make their lover happy but nothing was ever good enough and eventually this person was pushed to the point of no return and fell out of love.

for those who say, "its about a girlfriend trying to change her bf. "
    i don't think that's it at all
have you seen the f***ing video
its about having a battle with yourself.
how sometimes you just can't stand yourself.
and the only person you have a problem with is you
    its about being all alone
    finding yourself.

    BATTLING YOURSELF.

the song is about losing your mind mr. leto said it himself.

but ill agree with everyone else this song is dedicated
to a girl. Its a hate song he is telling the
girl in the simplest words to
fuck off that he doesn't care for her
    anymore and things like that
everyone who listens to what music says and
not just to how it sounds would have figured
that out the 3th time they listened to this song

I feel the song is about wanting something so bad but don't know how to get it.Someone you want very much but they think your not good enough when you know things could work out but I guess somethings are never meant to be and that really sucks.

About the person who wanted to know about the video, the video is based on one of the coolest movies ever made "the shining" by Stephen King, yes, a horror.

This is the the dude a few posts above me,
    it's not
    "marry me, bury me"
    it's
    "bury me, bury me."
the song is about one's relationship with one's self.

I think the song could actually have a lot to do with jared leto's career as a musician. Both the song and video kind of made me think that he's getting tired of being the 'musician' and 'himself' as well.

In the video, there are two of him at the hotel they go to in order to take a break. One in a tux (representing the musician) and one in casual clothes. And they're fighting, like it's pulling him apart to be two people at once.

    I dunno, that's how I saw it.
