   He liked it better when it was only just the two of them without having to worry about busy tasks and all the memories that they shared but it also said "take it back to the old school yard singing songs on our guitars" so I'm probably assuming high school sweetheart? So I guess now they both have time to actually be together but he wants to take the long way home due to him not wanting to leave and just wanna stay and be with her every second of the day not missing anymore things that's going on her life

   I think the song simply means that when "he" takes his special girl back where she needs to go, she'll find another man and he is worried, so he will use the longest way back to her home so they can spent as much time together as possible, so she realizes how great that he is, and wont find another guy quite like him. :) - Maggie L.
