This interpretation about the meaning of The Ballad of Dwight Fry is so so so wrong! This was released on 1971's LOVE IT TO DEATH album. Alice had never been to rehab til the late 70s. The song is the Alice Cooper Band's (original band) interpretation of the life of one of his favorite actors, Dwight Frye (note the difference in spelling), a bit part player in horror movies (which Alice loves) of the 30's and 40's, notably "Dracula," "Frankenstein," and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame." I will say that the lyrics are almost a fortelling of Alice's life to come. But the album "FROM THE INSIDE" is the album written after his stay in the mental hospital to dry out and was released long after he became a solo artist in 1978. Please correct this terribly incorrect information.

The song is about a guy Cooper met while he had to stay at a mental hospital for alcohol problems, he said that he was able to meet some interesting people, but he was not alowed to use their real names or they would find him and kill him.
