The lyrics come from the book of revelation, the last book of the bible.
Then the angel carried me away in the spirit into a desert. There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was covered with blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns and each horn had ten crowns. The woman was dressed in purple scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls. She held a golden cup in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries. This was written on her forehead.
Mystery
babylon the great
the mother of prostitutes
and of the abominations of the earth.

Revelation 17:3-5

The harlot is the demon who makes you sin and wat not and the beast is... Well.. U no.. The devil. The city is the city of evil where ppl go when they wanna do stuff theyr not supposed to. The line that says "made the wrong decision
and it's easy to see. Now if you wanna serve above or be a king below with us your
welcome to the city where your future is set forever"
well, that's wat I think it is but other ppl have different opinions about it.

The song is about the precursor to the end times and armageddon.... Several lines from this song are taken from the biblical book of revelations. The movie they made does not necesarily display the exact images and story of revelations... But the song very much does. The movie they made supports the idea of the "harlot of lust" consuming everyday life and causing us to sin.

The harlot tempts people to behave poorly and sin, as she does in revelations. Which is where the metaphorical line "makes us drink the poisoned wine" comes from. (which can be found in the book of revelations) the poisoned wine represents our temptation and will to sin.

This harlot is accompanied by an 8 headed beast with 10 horns on which she rides on in revelations. Each of the beast's heads represent (what I believe) to be an evil nation or leader, which promoted the horrid acts of man kind... Especially in this past century (hitler, stalin, mussolinni, even george bush). Thats where the line "fornicating with our kings" comes from. (which is also from the book of revelations)

revelations is very much filled with metaphors and a7x made a video which does a very good job of displaying them in my opinion.
If you want to fully understand much of a7x's work I suggest you actually read the book of revelations for much of their material is based upon this biblical book about the end of the world.

As many of you might know "chapter four" is from the book of genesis. Along with their name: avenged sevenfold.
The title of their second album, "sounding of the seventh trumpet", is also derived from the book of revelations.
So, if ure interested, take the time to read revelations and maybe you will find a whole new reason to love a7x... If ure interested in fully understanding the band and their beliefs that is. Its the last one in the bible and its short...

the person earlier did a pretty good interpretation. The only thing is that the harlot from revelations actually represents all false religion. and she's the one who has been fornicating with the kings. I mean c'mon think about it, any war you can think of has been backed by certain "christian" religions. So that's what it means by the fornicating with the kings. and when it says "the poisoned wine" its talking about how in the bible it speaks of the harlot being "drunk on the blood of the holy ones" so along with fornicating with the kings this harlot is also persecuting true christians. but the bible also says that the beast (present day governments) will turn on the harlot, so she will no longer be riding the beast and it will leave her naked. when that happens its one of the very last signs of the times. but when the beast tries to turn on the one last true religion, the one that never fornicated with the beast by participating in its wars and things, then the end will come. revelations really is an interesting book. Its one of the few books in the bible that speaks specifically about the times we live in. actually if you wanted to discuss the meaning of revelations email me at kevinlgjr@hotmail.com. or you could go to the kingdom hall of jehovahs witnesses. Theyre about to start a book called revelation: its grand climax at hand.

The song is taken from the book of Revelation, the last book of the bible. The seven headed beast represents the political governments of the world. The meanings of the horns escapes me at the moment. The woman or harlot represents the world empire of false religion, a cage for demons to mislead. The seven headed beast turns on the women (The political governments will turn on religion) and "strips her naked and eats up her fleshly parts". Merchants and the political leaders will mourn her loss for practical reasons, like 'Christmas was good for the Economy' and 'Religion kept the people moral and peaceful'. The harlot has fornicated with the kings of the earth much like false religion has contributed to an excessive degree to almost every war. As the bible says "Get out of her my people if do not wish to share her in destruction, for her sins have climbed clear to the heavens... or sky... all lyrics in this song...

Alright, when the Bible speaks of Babylon in revelations, the prediction could have simply been the "Babylon" of the time. The biggest city in the world. Then again, Babylon was also considered its own state, complete with guards and a rule over other states.

The prediction was made about what the seer thought was Babylon, but now people are starting to think it's the States. Babylon was simply coined as a term for the place with overflowing sin.

The harlot in the song and Revelations is Babylon, having sex with the beast, Satan (or sin). It's really not that hard. Also, believe it or not, Wikipedia isn't a fountain of accuracy.

The song is taken from the book of revelation the story being the famous prostitute or the beast and the harlot dependent on what bible you are reading but this is almost taken word for word from it until it moves onto another story labeled the fall of Babylon which tells the stories of how she destroys the city. "There sat a beast with seven heads and ten horns and on his throne sat a harlot who was stripped with hatred" "there sat a seven headed beast ten horns raised from its head symbolic woman sits on his throne but hatred strips her and leaves her naked"

Don't get me wrong I like avenge sevenfold but like the first interp my friend has an unhealtyh obsession too and its a little weird I admit. but anyway I do think it was taken from a book. I can't really tell you if it was the bible because I have a very little religious back ground, but it sounds logical.

now you may think I am crazy but I do research and they say the new "anti-crist" is coming and this time its going to be a girl and the symbolic color is red(just like the RED dress she is wearing in the music video)and bla bla bla the 7 sins but if they did make the chorus than I do think its strange that they made it a girl" she's a dwelling place for demons she's a cage for every unclear spirit every filthy bird(that reminds me of hell)(or atracts sins) and makes us drink the POISON WHINE (makes us sin) to fornicated with the king falling now its Babylon the great"(because we sin)

Personally I believe this song speaks of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah from the old testament of the Bible. Most of the song speaks on a city built in gold filled with evil. Sodom and Gomorrah were just that. If anyone might remember this is where Lot, Abraham's Nephew, lived. Two angels came to Lot and told him to leave the city for God was going to destroy it. God did then destroy it and Lot's wife looked back and was turned to salt.

Other parts of this song clearly refer to the Book of Revelations such as "There sat a seven-headed beast, ten horns raised from his head."

I'll think about it more and fix this if I feel needed. Thankz for reading whoever did.

Okay, I just kinda skimmed the previous interpretations, and I didn't see anyone who got this.

Avenged Seven Fold, is a line from the bible, (genesis) and beast and the harlot is basically a little bit from the revelations, Harlot means something like slut, in the bible there is a prostitute in the revelations, and there is also a beast as of which the song describes.

I didn't look to much into the song yet, but if someone really wants to know the meaning look to the bible for a little help I think it is like chapter 12 or near there that talks of the prostitute, can't remember, but it is near the beginning that she is first mentioned, as for the band name, chapter five, or something. I think they wrote a song on it and it is talking about the first murder on earth I think, not sure.

The song is taken from the Book of Revelation.(chapter 17) The Harlot (Babylon the great) Rides the seven headed scarlet beast (5 world powers have fallen, the other has no yet arrived an the other when it does arrive will only remain a short while) and the 10 horns (they mean 10 kings who have not yet received kingdom but they do receive authority over the beast. Look up chapter 17 and have a read, if anyone needs any help understanding it contact me on iceblackflame@yahoo.com

This is very Book of Revelation, once God takes the Christians away (the rapture) those who are left will have only a few years to choose whether to become a Christian and be one of God's people or to abandon him completely. The words 'if you wanna serve above or be a king below with us' is explaining the choice it will be one or the other no more in-between.

'The day has come for all us sinners if you're not a servant you'll be struck to the ground'
the 'destroyed in an hour'is also in the bible. Part of the Book of Revelations is that the antichrist will take over the world, the entire world will be run from Babylon. God will destroy it. Since everyone will depend on Babylon it's no surprise 'Merchants and captains of the world, sailors, navigators too Will weep and mourn this loss'
It's also said that god will turn all sources of water to blood which could be another reason they are pointing out the sailors in that sentence.

I've heard a lot of good interpretations on this page but a7x is my fav band and beast and the harlot is my fav song so... Heres what I say. I actually read revelations and it says that the seven headed beast actually represents satan or sin w/e. but the seven heads also represent stuff. each head represents a king that will rise with the beast. The sixth king was raining and the seventh was yet to come. It also said the beast was one of the seven. Its kinda confusing. anyway, it also described the seven heads as the seven hills that babylon(the harlot) rests on. The ten horns on the beast represent ten kings or something like that. and again the harlot refers to Babylon, the city of evil. all the other interpretations should help explain the harlot and.... ya... a7x refers to Babylon as Hollywood. According to them, Hollywood is poisoning the residents, making them drunk on the wine of sin. a7x is a badass band and beast and the harlot is a badass song. unfortunately I'm in school right now and can't write a whole lot...

This song speaks of a story out of the bible (the religous book for christian belief) is talking about a city called Babylon. In the bible the city became great and wonderful in the eyes of man, but in the eyes of God it was a place of wickedness so God destroyed the city. The song talks about the choice you have either serve God or be a king of the "city were your future is set forever" ("city of evil")the beast is Satan, and the harlot is the city of Babylon. Here are some lyrical examples: "This shining city built of gold, a far cry from innocence,
There's more than meets the eye round here, look to the waters of the deep.
A city of evil.
There sat a seven-headed beast, ten horns raised from his head.
Symbolic woman sits on his throne, but hatred strips her and leaves her naked.
The Beast and the Harlot."
"She's a dwelling place for demons.
She's a cage for every unclean spirit,
every filthy bird and makes us drink
the poisoned wine to fornicating with our kings.
Fallen now is Babylon the Great."
"I don't believe in fairy tales and no one wants to go to hell.
You've made the wrong decision and it's easy to see.
Now if you wanna serve above or be a king below with us,
You're welcome to the city where your future is set forever."

this song is based on a part of a book out of the Bible (christianity's religous book) it is called revalation. the song is talking about this verse: Then the angel carried me away in the spirit into a desert there I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was covered with blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns and each horn had ten crowns. The woman was dressed in purple scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls. She held a golden cup in her hand and was with child. the child would be ruler of all things evil of the earth, the cup was filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries. This was written on her forehead. (Revelation 12) The harlot repersents all things of the earth that are evil. the bible refers to the end times of the earth being "a new babylon" ("city of evil") the beast and the harlot is a metiphorical statment. the beast is satan while the harlot is a symbolic repersintation of the world, and its evil wich is the new babylon.

Avenged Sevenfold is FAR from religious. Listen to the album Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, or the lyrics from A Little Piece of Heaven. They're not religious. But they do an amazing thing putting the bible to music. Beast and the Harlot is about the chapter of revelations; the coming of the apocalypse, the end of the world. The Beast is the antichrist, Satan. The harlot is the will to sin. The seven headed beast, with 10 horns - The Leviathan. The seven heads represent the seven deadly sins, and one would guess the 10 horns are the 10 commandments being broken?...

Yes, I think it quite obvious that the song comes from the book Revelations. I have also heard some speak of Avenged Sevenfold being Christian - Cathloic, perhaps. That makes me question the line, "Now if you wanna serve above or be a king below with us your welcome to the city where your future is set forever." This seems to be promoting worship of Satan - do you wish to serve God, or be a King with the Devil? I may be wrong.

This song is far from christian. while the story is taken from the Bible,it is used the wrong way. "now if you wanna serve above or be a king below with us" does that sound christian? no,they are promoting satan and being kings with him in hell. while i do like some of A7x's music and even though they do have some stuff from the Bible, its nowhere near christian. just thought i would clear up any doubts on that.

Every word in the song is straight from the bible and to all you saying that they are satanic they aren't and someone said something about the "sounding the seventh trumpet" album not being religious the album is directly named from a quote in the bible and several of the songs have biblical mentions in them, the 7 headed beast has many references 7 heads for the 7 deadly sins the 10 horns for the 10 major powers in the world and 10 crowns on each horn indicating 10 key figure heads for each power, covered with blasphemous words meaning the figure heads think they are religious but truly aren't servants of god, the harlot tempts and corrupts all the undecided of the true "religion" until she comes across one of the "pure of the true religion" where the beast knows that this one cannot be turned and turns its back on her stripping her of everything that makes her lustrious and this point she then destroys Babylon as she cannot continue as she did without the beasts power... none of this references current time... This is all about the ancient city of Babylon not the usa or Anna Nicole many people mourned Anna Nicole's death that were true sinners as she was "too young to die" and the media covered it for weeks... as many people mourned Nichole Brown Simpson's death but she's not mentioned here cause she was killed by a mortal, as far as to my understanding also the harlot was never spoken about dying just being stripped naked and shunned by both sinners and the pure, I personaly like avenged sevenfold am not religious but have studied the bible intently to not be ignorant to what all you religious sheep think is a fact...so basically in short the lyrics are taken from the book of revelations directly the words mixed up a bit so their not just reading straight from the bible some parts left out but nothing in the song ISNT directly in the bible in some form... "The day has come for all us sinners.
If you're not a servant, you'll be struck to the ground.
Flee the burning, greedy city. Lookin' back on her to see there's nothing around." basically if your not going to heaven you will all die is what that line means, and I know this is long the the portion directly after this talks about being a king in hell or leaving the city... as in the bible god told the masses to leave the city as its fate was condemned.
