Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey Lyrics

Come on come on come on come on
Come on is such a joy
Come on is such a joy
Come on take it easy
Come on take it easy
Take it easy take it easy
Everybody’s got something to hide except for me and
My monkey.

The deeper you go the higher...

Its obviously about some drug, an addictive drug, probably heroin, used for relaxation.

I pulled this out of my ass, but somebody might find it entertaining:

He's talking about public masturbation (spanking the monkey). That would explain the "Come on is such a joy" part. If you did it in front of everyone, that would certainly not be hiding you and your monkey.

TO the last post . Yes it could but then the rest of the song would support that idea

Most agree that the song is about the relationship between John Lennon (Me) and Yoko Ono (My Monkey).

However, it should also be considered that monkey may refer to an addiction.

Ok as unpleasent as this may seem to everyone including myself . I believe this song written by john is a responce to the horrible rap Yoko got not just from female fans ,but from male fans also . I remember people saying what is he doing with that monkey as well as other insults that she was forced to bear just because she was different . It was John saying we are all different but at least Yoko and i are not hiding it here we are accept us or not we don't care .He also says that she is a joy he pleads for people to take it easy and finaly for all to make it easy and stop the hatred towards her

'Beatlesongs' is by William Dowlding, not Golding...

First interpretation and second combined are right.

    Again, John said it himself.

I recommend a few people out there find copies of
the Lennon Tapes and read the last interview he did
with Playboy. So many songs that I have read "interpretations" of are outright discussed their by their
    author.

This song was written in 68. They had already left India after discovering Guru Dev (the song across the universe...jai guru deva) is about their spiritual leader Guru Dev and what a fraud he turned out to be. So why would this song refer to him....especially in a positive sense??? It's about him and that moron Yoko.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

Well, 8th grader guy. It could be a different writer by the same name, so don't get discouraged. Anyway I think this, as many of the Beatles songs can be interpreted in any way you want, but I am thinking on the paranoia one. That sounds most logical to me.

Alright above, you got the spiritual part right. Although some of it may be about John and Yoko, its a sex song in my opinion. Monkey = male genetalia. Cmon = shout during intercourse- you get my point. I have no research on this, but it sounds like something the beatles would do. And yes, William Golding wrote Lord of the flies.

Okay, first of all, WILLIAM GOLDING wrote LORD OF THE FLIES so your source is probably wrong.
What I heard (in The Beatles Anthology) is that this song was written when they went to that spiritual rest place... They said that basically, the song was describing what they had learned there - except for the monkey part.
    Check your sources.

I am a youngster in eighth grade and for an english project, I studied Beatles lyric interpretations. In my studies I found a book that described their songs and albums and intentions, called beatlesongs by william golding. It said that John said he felt as if "everyone was paranoid except for [he] and Yoko. They were in the glow of love."

During the Anthology interviews George credits the Maharishi as some direct inspiration for a few lyrics (Come on you're such a joy, i.e.)

"Me and my monkey" comes from a twist by John. In a newspaper cartoon, the cartoonist depicted John and Yoko as a man (John) with a monkey on his back (Yoko). John decided to use the clever twist in his song about him and Yoko.

John wrote this song about him and Yoko. The rest of the band got sort of tense and weren't exactly happy about her being at all the sessions and recordings and stuff, but him and Yoko were just openly in love. So he felt everyone around them were paranoid except for the two of them.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
