It seems to me to be about leaving the sorrow of the state of life you are in now and moving on to a better life either elsewhere or just reliving your life in a better way.

I, too, think that this song is about the end of a relationship by a pro-active lover. The woman the speaker loves is unaware of what is happening in his mind. The lines, "one day you'll look," contain the idea that this person to whom the artist speaks is at this time unaware of his intent to leave. It is not clear if the speaker of these lines will have been gone a long time before his departure is even noticed or if he is trying to gather the courage to leave. It could be akin to the Eagles' "Already Gone." When the speaker says "You'll see I was the one" it could mean that he thinks he was the right partner for this woman and she did not appreciate him. He feels undervalued and is unhappy and wants to end this cruel sentence. He gave his heart to a woman who did not want to marry him. He is afraid that she will be the one to end the relationship so he is considering ending it first.

I have listened to this track endlessly......like most Beatles tunes. As with all songs...the meaning is as different as the listener, which is how a truly great song should be. For me, this song has a much deeper meaning that is about a person who is dying and talking about how his true worth won't be recognized until he is gone. The rain is the illness, and as a result, the person will end his remaining days having fun.
