This song seems to be about a woman who has given up after losing faith in humanity (possibly after an arranged marriage?). The narrarator is trying to comfort her, telling her to simply pretend there are some good people.

Later in the song, the narrator himself is mugged outside his house. The theif takes "everything I had, and everything I have" which I take to mean he took both his possessions and his faith in humanity.
