Now we take our time ... so nonchalant,
And spend our nights so bon vivant.

The song is about the static existance of the upper class. They spend a lot of time on distraction and pleasure, but paradoxically never live life to the fullest. They hide deeper human issues by indulging themselves to forget. The protagonist senses this, but is too addicted to the lifestyle to ever do anything else ("So before we end (and then begin"), an endless cycle of avoidance.
