I thing that this song is about the negative side of the scientific progress and how can it finally lead to the extinction of humanity. While the mankind keeps evolving, it will be destroyed by the machines it created for slaves.So, the song is about the danger of limitless research or something... Yap, defenatelly a song about the end of the world.

This song is obviously about Nuclear Armeggedon, a topic that would be covered by countless metal bands afterward. The first verse is about the actual bombing, the second is about the result that follows, and the last verse is about the aftermath (everybody goes to hell).
