   The song, an obvious hymn to recreational marijuana use, got its title from a packet of cigarettes bassist Geezer Butler bought in Dublin that claimed the tobacco was "the sweet leaf." The song begins with a tape loop of guitarist Tony Iommi coughing!!!

   The song ISN'T about weed or anything, even though it does seem like it. It is actually about an air freshener of which they had in their car, it was called sweet leaf.

   This song is about people who seek and find themselves through marijuana. Weed enabled him to escape depression and to discover new things in life. Smoking reefer is introspective "introduced me, to my mind".
   Regular and conform people "straight" don't perceive the values of marijuana and just shut it out. Whereas he has found salvation in it.
