Black Veil Brides: Knives and Pens Meaning
Song Released: 2010
Knives and Pens Lyrics
And I've lost all faith in this blurring light,
But, stay right here we can change our plight.
We're storming through this despite what's right.
One final fight, for this tonight...
Woah...
With knives...

Ok well Andy was tormented a lot as a kid, he was called "emo" "fag" etc. and well he had the choice between cutting himself (knives) or writing poetry/songs(pens). Andy chose pens hence Black Veil Brides... I know how it feels to be treated differently because you are different from everyone else...I tired knives, its not worth it....Pens are definitely the way to go :)

This song has to do with the choice of cutting yourself (which can/will kill you) or writing your expressions through Poetry, stories, Songs, Ect. It's also narrated by the main character.
"Alone at last, we can sit and fight.
And I've lost all faith in this blurring light,"
This is basically saying that the main character in this song ((let's say it's a guy.)) is alone with his thoughts and mind, and how he' debating over his choice of writing down his expressions or cutting himself. The Second line I think is referancing to the main character loosing what was left with his faith in god because of what's happening to him.
"But stay right here we can change our plight.
We're storming through this despite what's right."
He's telling his mind to stop leaning towards cutting yourself and that he can change the path they where going to go on, and that he's going to debate this topic even though he already knows what the right path to go on is.
"One final fight, for this tonight.
Woah...
With knives and pens we made our plight."
It's saying that even though that everyday he possible debated cutting himself or writing about it that he wants to do it one last time and that with his choices he made his two paths he can go on.
"Lay your heart down the ends in sight.
Conscience begs for you to do what's right."
He's saying that he chose to cut himself and that if continues doing it it might kill him and the second line basically says everything on it's own, that you're concience nows that writing would be the better thing to do and that it's safe too.
"Everyday it's still the same dull knife,
Stab it through and justify your pride."
He's saying that everyday he'd cut himself with the same knife and it's getting dull now, and that he's telling himself that he should keep cutting himself to make his pride feel better about its self.
"One final fight, for this tonight.
Woah...
With knives and pens we made our plight.
Woah..."
He's going to debate choosing cutting or writing again.
"And I can't go on without your love, you lost, you never held on.
We tried our best, turn out the light,
Turn out the light."
He's saying he can't go on without his concienes help with it because it's the only thing that cares for him and that now it's deserting him because he' ignoring it. He's saying that he tried cutting but it didn't turn out that well so he chose writing and it was a good choice so he can stop debating the two choices.
"One final fight, for this tonight.
Woah...
With knives and pens we made our plight.
Woah...
And I can't go on without your love, you lost, you never held on.
We tried our best, turn out the light,
Turn out the light."
Repeat from above. -

"Alone at last, we can sit and fight, and i've lost all faith in this blurring light" You can automatically tell it will be depressing. He is saying that he can fight with his head. He has lost all faith in a god or any religous shit. Then his head is saying "Stay right here we can change our plight, storming through this, despite whats right." Basically his conscience telling him not to kill himself. The chorus repeats itself. It says instead of suicide, take your anger out with a knife (self harm) or a pen (write songs). Next verse goes on to say "Conscience made for you to do whats right" He finally gave in and is going to kill himself.. what I love about the last line is it says.. "We tried our best, turn out the light" People dont think about the lyrics and watch the video. There is the complete opposite ending in the video to the song.

Its about when Andy was younger he got called names because of how he dressed and how he acted. Knives represent cutting and pens represent writing. He could choose either one. Like in the video you see the kid writing near the railroads and on his locker you see stuff written. I can totally relate to this song and its meaning right now im actually in 7th grade and this stuff happens to me. And usually people would accuse me and others that wear black and listen to this music of doing wrong things.
Love this song! :3 -

I love BVB their songs have helped me through a lot in my life. I used to cut and the scars it left behind are horrible, but through them I have been doing better and gaining confidence in myself as a person to do what I want and to follow my dreams. To not care what other people think of me. I listen to their music everyday, they are like lullabies to me and I love them. Everyone who doesn't like this type of music is stupid when they don't even try to listen to the lyrics.

This song is about writing down your thoughts rather than resorting to self harm. It relates to the singer, Andy Biersack's, childhood. He used to get bullied a lot, and he had the choice of committing suicide or following his dream of being a musician. Thankfully, he decided to become a singer.
By the way, I love ALL of Black Veil Brides, not just Andy, and those fangirls who only like the band for their looks can GTFO. I liked BVB befor I even knew what they looked like. -

I believe it's about choosing either to cut yourself (knives) or write down your feelings (Pens). Throughout the song he seems so be having trouble deciding which to do but his conscience is telling him to do whats right, which would be writing.

When asked what was the meaning of knives and pens, Andy said "I obviously look different and listen to different kinds of bands. The different kids where put down by other people and it would cause them to come almost violent with themselves, which isn't really necessary. There's a way you can find strength in yourself. For me it was writing. That was my release, or escape. Knives and pens to me was like a choice."

Well the song is supposed to represent Andy as a kid and what happened to him because off the way he dressed and got called emo,fag etc. So i think most people in this situation would cut but instead he thinks to write stuff down and you can express your emotions a different way to just self harming for example writting songs down from whats happening can take your mind off things . So Andy chose writing songs over self harming which is the smart thing to do

The song "Knives and Pens" isn't talking much about Andy when he was younger. There was a court case where 3 little boys got murdered and 3 teenage boys that dress in black and listen to metal were accused of the murder when they didn't even do it! at the beginning of the music video where it says "In looking at young people involved.." ect. that was part of the case talking about the people that were supporting the teens because they knew they didn't do it!

it took me a while to understand the meaning of this song, its basically saying, YOU have the choice between cutting and writing, ive tried both, you can burn letters and delete writing, but you'll never be able to erase the scars that cutting leaves, emotional and physical. write; its so much better.
stay cool:) -

There is a different meaning in this song for everyone. I think that this song is just telling you to hold on, and never to give in, even when you are going through a tough time, or you will loose the game, which is life(Lyrics: and i cant go on without your love, YOU LOST, YOU NEVER HELD ON), because you are just a pawn in the game of life. Whenever you give up, you have made a plight (or predicament) for yourself, and in this particular song, the plight has been made by knives and pens, although they can be made by anything, and by anyone, so everybody can relate. I know my plight has been made by knives, scissors, and sins.

its about andy being a little kid and he was bullied when he was young and he had to choose pens or knives and he choose pens because knives are not the solution it just reminds you what bad happen and it leaves a scare behind and the pens are better because you take all your anger out with a piece of paper. and andy6 luv the forever and this song2

One final fight,
For this tonight-
(I believe what theyre saying is that theyre fighting for what they believe in, but they want to stop, hence *final* fight.)
Whoa...
With knives and pens we made our plight-
(The are trying to make a difene with knives and pens, or their self-distructive acts[knives]or their words[pens].)
Whoa...
I cant hold on without your love, you lost, you never held on-
(He is trying hard not to give in, despite that everone else is)
We tried our best,
Turn out the light
(They have tried so hard to fight back, ''turning out the light' is just their way of saying that this fighting is getting us nowhere, and they wish they ould just stop.)
Turn out the light! -

It's about the three teenage boys arrested and imprisoned in Memphis for triple murder basically because they looked and dressed differently from other people, eg listened to Metallica and Slayer. One of them had learning difficulties. The quote at the beginning of this video is taken from the court case; it was said one of the boys was the leader of a cult which would "wear black fingernails, paint their hair black, wear black t-shirts. Sometimes they would even tattoo themselves."

I believe that it's about standing up for yourself. I've tried knives and pens, and it depends on my mood which one I choose. I've met someone I love dearly and he got me to pick up writing my heart out. And I've almost run out of ideas. It sucks.

I think that the song "Knives and Pens" it means like away of describin someone, and the way they feel. Like it's letting you know that there's always going to be problems out there, and things that will make you want to think wrong about yourself. And it also talks about conscience. "Conscience begs you to do what's right, stab it on and justify whats mine or yours".. Understand?? :3
