I thought it was written before that movie. Forget It was in American Pie, Bandcamp, when Matt Stifler is deleting the footage off his computer because he feels guilty he betrayed his crush, Elyse Houston. I think this song is about a person who has been betrayed and is over it but will never forgive or make up with his/her lover/friend/other. (the person who stabbed them in the back).

You do realize of course that "eternal sunshine of the spotless mind" came out in 2004, while "american pie bandcamp" came out in 2005 right?

Like those who have given their thoughts about this particularly mysterious song, I'll take a shot as well- the lyrics are very appealing!

The theme has to do with bitterness and hurting, but they don't derive from hatred, but just from agony and the feeling of betrayal/hurt. Hence, the mellow tone of the song and singing.

The perspective of the song is obviously from a man who has just been done hurt to in love, and he is more than happy to hurt the wrongdoer back. "Forget it" hints that there is a side to him that wants him to just cool down, then "there's nothing to lose..." tells you he has nothing left after what has just happened except "my mind and all the things I wanted".

He gets these feelings that he should move on, but he discards them (and he admits: "it's a sign, I get it, I wanna stay")

- I'm not sure what he means by "By the time I lose it, I'm not afraid, I'm alive but I can surely fake it", but maybe he means that by the time he loses his 'mind and all the things he wanted' he will still be alive, but he can "surely fake" that he is not hurt in any way (trying to appear tough, in other words).

He doesn't want to believe the other side of his mind telling him to "forget it", hence the phrase keeps repeating rather softly in the background. The singer refers to the ex-partner as the "part of [him] that [he doesn't] wanna see"

... Forget it ... maybe these are just whispers of the other side of his mind? And he doesn't want to listen to it!

- The second verse is more confusing, and I'll take a stab at its possible meaning. - This guy has this unforgettable memory that wallows, and he imagines what could become of the situation or come out of it, either good or bad. The second half of the verse, in my opinion, might refer to how he is redoubting all the things she said (refer to "breath") and every single answer she gave to his questions (hence, "ever answer counted") Again, he is not overly mad or upset, but more importantly, his feelings have been cheated and are hurt!

"Just fade away" > Is he fighting to keep this grudge?
"Please let me stay" > He wants to wallow in this feeling
"Caught in your way" > The other side of his mind just won't leave him alone, can it!

"I can live forever here" > He's expressing his immediate feelings of how he feels a sense of belonging in the wallowing of his pain and bitterness.

- Well, that's about it. Again, I want to stress that this song has to do with betrayal, pain, and bitterness, but not anger, hatred, or violence. Also, each person's vast experiences in life can shape and mold his or her perception/viewpoints, so just so you know! Thanks -
