Crosby Stills Nash & Young: Chicago Meaning

Chicago Lyrics

Nash, 1970
Though your brother's bound and gagged
And they've chained him to a chair
Won't you please come to Chicago
Just to sing
In a land that's known as freedom

The song also refers to the Chicago 7 trial, related to the protests at the 68 convention. The first line, "though your brother's bound and gagged" refers to Black Panther Party activist Bobby Seale, who was ordered bound and gagged by the judge during the trial.

Crosby and Nash did go to Cicago because of the violence Mayor Daley incited against the 'hippie' protestors of the Democratic Convention. Stills did not travel with them and this song was written asking Stills to join them in Chicago to protest the situation.

The eagle flies with the dove is from "Love The One You're With", not "Chicago".

This is a protest song against the 1968 democratic convention. The mayor at the time invited all of the hippies to participate in the convention. When they arrived, there were cops waiting on them. Many people were hurt. A part of the sang says the eagle flies with the dove. This promotes peace.
