And so it is
Just like you said it would be
Life goes easy on me
Most of the time
And so it is

No love...

This song is about a young Damien who thinks he's in love with his clarinet teacher's daughter. She doesn't return his feelings and turns down his advances. He attempts to go on with his life and it goes fine, except he still thinks of her sometimes. The shorter story refers to the fact that she didn't return his feelings (no love, no glory) so their story ends sooner than he had hoped. When he says we'll both forget the breeze, it makes me think of a summer breeze, or a summer fling, so possibly they had a physical encounter. Colder water is like being splashed in the face with cold water or being hit with reality. The blower's daughter is obviously his clarinet teacher's daughter, a pupil in denial is Damien not wanting to admit that there is no future for them. I think as Damien gets older he realizes that he didn't actually love her, and that she treated him poorly. This is the loathing and the leaving it all behind. He realized it wasn't really love, and he'll get over it when he meets someone new.

It's my opinion that this song is about obsession. The singer does not actually love the person he is singing to, he just kinda can't stop looking at her (example: "I can't take my eyes off of you" repeated over and over). She is not the love of his life and he knows that it's the same for her (example: No love, no glory. No hero in her sky).

In fact, he even states that he loaths the object of his infatuation (example: "Did I say that I loathe you?"). I really don't think that line was meant as an apology. It's said in a more "Did you know...?" way.

The singer begrudgingly admits he is obsessed with this person, not because he loves her, but because it almost can't take his eyes off her. As the last line states ("'Til I find somebody new") he'll move on eventually, if he can find someone better.

I think this song is about a girl who he loves, but can't have. He wants her very badly, and she won't let him have her. She tells him the way it will be between them, and he finds that it really is that way, hense the line "and so it is just like you said it would be."

When he says, "Life goes easy on me most of the time" He means that she told him he'd be ok without her and she was right except for that feeling he still holds of longing for her inside of him. But I think he is so consumed with longing for this girl that he can't think of anything else, hense the lines "I can't take my eyes off of you." or "I can't take my mind off of you." And he is feeling low about it because he wants her and she won't give him her love so he says, "And so it is the shorter story, No love no glory." because that puts an end to the story of their relationship.

When he says "we'll both forget the breeze, most of the time." I think he means that the breeze is changing in their relaitonship and even when he tries to forget about it, it stays in the back of his mind. Then he says, "And so it is the colder water, the blower's daughter, the pupil in denial." He means that the water runs cold, or it leaves him bitter in other words, that he can't have her. And the pupil referrs to her and how she is in denial that she really loves him back.

When it says, "Did I say I loathe you, Did I say I want to leave it all behind?" I think that is her talking to him saying she is regretting her decision because she really doesn't loathe him and she really does want him, and she is regretting giving all that up. And then he says, "I can't take my mind off of you... until I find somebody new." He means that he will always be consumed by this obsession with her until somebody else comes along that he can consume his mind with instead of her, or helps him move on from her, in other words.
