This song is basically about a guy who falls in love with his best friend who has spent a lot of time with.

I agree with the first one.

"we watched the seasons pull up its own stakes"

means its been a while

I think that this song is about someone he loves but doesn't necessarily want to, so she "stole [his] heart".

I totally agree that this song is about how best friends fall in love.

Actually if you watch the video you would notice the song is about love over the progression of a lifetime, it helps if you watch the music video.

I think it's about graduating from HS! I mean all the stuff about the last celebration, season fades, etc??

This song reminds me of "Great Expectations", the movie starring Ethan Hawk and Gweneth Paltrow, a movie I love so much btw. I think that it's about two besties that wind up falling in love with each other. One of the best kinds!

When I hear this song, I think of one of my guy friends who I love more than a friend, but yet, we will only remain friends. He was the first one to really "steal" my heart. So I do believe it is about unrequited love, or possibly love that once was, but then "faded" away. The "We all look like we feel" line is SO extremely powerful. I get chills everytime i hear it.
