The song tells people to make life happen and not lie in our graves, and only dream of what could happen. It encourages everyone to live life and love it.

It talks about someone dying and having no regrets in their life.

this song has three main verses.
the first representing birth. "when I step into the light.."

the second, "when I'm walking by the water..."
this verse represents someone living their life.

(you could also say that the long jam represents the years passing as someone lives out their life)

the final verse, "I can't believe that we would lie in our graves..." represents death, and a person looking back at their life.

the core idea of the song is that you do not want to one day be dead, looking back at life and saying, "I should have done that," or "I regret doing that"

this is just my interpretation, of course.

Dave has always taken a carpe diem (seize the day) attitude in his music I believe this song keeps with that attitude. to me he is saying if you dont live life you will never know what could've been.
