This song is about the book of job and how job had everything. money clothes housing and everything he wanted. he was vain about it so god took it away. David in the song prayer is not asking god to take everything away from him he is saying take everything away as in why have you taken everything what did i do to deserve this punishment.

The meaning is about the tests that you must go through in life and David's grandfather......... I don't care what anybody says this song will forever be one of the greatest.

Whether it be about religion, his grandfather, or what have you; people should just interpret the song however they want to instead of having one answer being right or wrong. Just seems like a bunch of bashing is going on here...of course, when religion is involved, that might as well be a given. -_-

I think that David Draiman has gone through a lot of shit in his life and I bet he asks God a lot of questions. I'm a Christian and I'm not religious either, I believe in having an intimate relationship with God which brings meaning in your life. We were created to have relationship with Him, it says so in the bible we were created in Gods image. I think that his family might have been like the pharisees in the old testament times and that's why I think he has fallen away from his beliefs. I pray that he will find God again...

As a few people already said this song has nothing to do with religion. Or at least it's not intended to be about religion. David is having a conversation with something or someone and whether this "something" is a random god of any religion or fate is entirely up to the listener. David might even be speaking to himself.

The Songs title might be "Prayer" but what David does is more of a Taunt.
"Let me enlighten you, this is the way I pray:" basically means something like "let me show you how to get over all the bad things that keep happening to you".
The actual prayer "Living just isn't hard enough, burn me alive inside. Living my life's not hard enough, take everything away." is a taunt to fate/god/whatever and the basic meaning of this song. If you just sit in a corner like a beaten dog and hope everything gets better you'll feel the same pain again and again all your life. So instead, stand proud and show your fate that your will isn't broken. The punishments won't be punishments anymore if you willingly accept them, the pain will become bearable if you don't try to avoid it and life gets easier the harder you wish for it to be.

Hmm. I am going to go out on a limb here and have to agree with a lot of the comments, but disagree with a few as well. This song symbolizes the many religions. Yes
THis song symbolizes the gfather death. Yes
This song shows some test of faith/doubt. Yes
Hmm... If you doubt, wouldnt you have thoughts of Satan, maybe he is doing this.. Hmm.. now lets think about the lyrics.
Verse 1 and 2... Satan is speaking to David (remember david is upset and mad at God (death of gfather), so satan is speaking to him here)
Chorus 1 and 2... David speaking back by prayer with God
"Heaven just isn't not hot enough" (satan is taking over sin on earth)
"Burn me alive inside" (God, burn some of your Love inside me)
"Living my life is just not hard enough" (saracasm)
"Take everything away" (to much pain/suffering on earth by satan, end it!)

As you can see, David is looking at all the terrible things in disgust. The building falling/fire is to show of a higher power (GOD, if you believe like I do)

I see this song as a pickle between the darkness and the ligh (God). He hears from satan, but turns to prayer for help from God, and that he knows whatever is thrown at him, it will not stop him because he still has the faith. This whole video shows all the TERRIBLE things satan and sin are doing on this earth, its falling apart badly, and quickly. And when he goes to pray away from satans doings on earth. HE SEES THE LIGHT OF GOD. and he is praying to ask for everyones pain/sufferings that are being caused for GOD to end everything on earth. And begin Eternal Life.
But who am I to say I'm totally correct, that's my point of view, a struggle, and if there is some GOD, there will be some SATAN, its your choose where to go, but both go hand in hand, its who you let win and who you want to BE WITH! GOD BLESS.

this is song is about people who have endured great pain and but endure it for their god. "this is the way i pray." "life isnt hard, enoguh burn me alive" he is talking about the sacrfices people make.

Song's about turning away from faith, becoming something less (OR MORE) human, making others believe your lack of faith, and then feeling what it's like to burn inside. What those people don't realize is that is the way you have faith. Turning others away from God, Because it's a lie. Now look up the lyrics for the title track of this album. You'll recognize what I mean.
