I find that music isn't there to see it as the artist does. Everyone may have different interpretations of said song, but in the long run it all leads to the same path. The path of belonging, everyone belongs in thier own individual way. I don't disagree with any of you on these subjects, I think they are all very reasonable point of views. It's a formula most musicians want to use, use certain aspects of your own life and globalize it for the public. I know this was off subject, but I just had to get that off my chest. thanks.

I know one thing about this song, so I will explain it. Supposedly, Amy Lee was sitting in a restauraunt, and a stranger came up to her, looked in her eyes, and asked her if she was happy. She new she wasn't, and had to make a change. Now, the beginning part "How can you see into my eyes, like open doors?" refers to her asking the man how he looked into her eyes and basically new she wasn't happy.

I think this song is about how amy feels so unhappy. This unhappiness makes her feel dead inside so she is beckoning to the world 'wake me up inside....Save me from the dark.....Save me from the nothing I've become....Frozen inside.....Don't let me die here' she is asking to be happy once again.

Basically the song is saying that life without you is a void. That you bring life into a lifeless soul. Without you I have nothing to look forward to, nothing but darkness.
"save me" = help me escape
"bring me to life" = fill the void in my life

none of them are right
its about being numb to the world and then someone comes along and gives you a feeling that you have never experienced before which 'wakes her up inside' and in the part where she sings "NOW THAT I KNOW WHAT I'M WITHOUT YOU CANT JUST LEAVE ME HERE, BREATHE INTO ME AND MAKE ME REAL" is how she dosent want to lose the person and the feeling and the 'breathe into me and make me real' is like 'make me happy again, stay with me'
'frozen inside without your touch' shows what I mean the best

I Kinda agree with the whole god thing....If you sit back and really look at the lyrics....
"Without a soul
My spirit's sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there and lead it back home"
Soul...Spirit...things about god...
"All of this time, I can't believe I couldn't see
Kept in the dark, but you were there in front of me"
About finding god...he's always there though you can't see...When someone finds god...they sometimes refer to an awakening...and finally being able to see..
"Without a thought, without a voice, without a soul
Don't let me die here
There must be something more"
Referring to Life after death...don't let me die here, there has to be something more, something after this life.
"Wake me up inside
Call my name and save me from the dark"
referring to god by meaning...show me the way, guide me to the light and save me from the darkness of sin.

To be honest, I really think the song title kind of speaks for itself. That is what I think.

This song is about numbness. Depersonalization that you get. It makes you feel dead inside. Unreal. Afraid.
Wanting someone to reach in and take you out of the void you are in.
It is emptiness. "Save me from the nothing I've become".
"I've been living a lie....there's nothing inside"
it is terrifying. why can everyone else feel and you can't.

I just want to add to the last person....the "empty" inside, the numbness...it's someone with BPD Borderline Personality Disorder. They are looking for someone to save them because they have an empty soul.

Ya Amy was at a restraunt meeting a friend of a friend and the person asked her if she was happy. She felt like he could see right throught her and everything about her. Amy says that he "Woke her up inside". She later said it was about her husband, Josh Hartzler

even though i know Evanescance isn't a christian band, i can't help but think in a way this song is written to god, though in no way is it to glorify him.

I think that yes, the song title speaks for itself, but also didn't she say that Josh Hartzler inspired the song? Or was it Ben Moody... I forget... Either way, the whole "Bring Me To Life" thing kinda states a will to become alive, a will to stop just exsisting, and start living. That's what I think, but hey.

Oh and also Evanescence was at one point labelled a Christian rock band, although basically they said that wasn't what their intentions were. On the other hand heaps of their songs can be viewed in a Christian viewpoint which is interesting. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Wiki has the whole story from the MTV interview. Her and a friend of a friend were waiting on other people. He was a sociology major. The rest is written there. As for not being a Christian band, that's how they started. Ben moody saw Amy lee playing piano in thy church. They originated as a Christian band.

I say its about Ben Moody, if anyone here thinks there was never anything more than friendship there.. well then your nuts, but it is SOOO not about GOD!!!

A girl who fears of her loneliness. It says "wake me up," several times, so I assume she wants to feel alive again - M
It's about someone who was dumped. She is asking for someone else to get with her because it says "breathe into me" and then she says "don't let me die here. There must be something more." That means that she doesn't want to end her life there, just because she got dumped. - L
I think she's really unhappy and after she found what she was looking for she doesn't want to lose him, or what she is missing, because then she is going to be unhappy and have a dull life. For example: "Now that I know that I'm without you can't just leave me. Breathe into me and make me real." - Z

This song reminds me so much of my son who has Autism. If you have ever looked in to the eyes of Autism you would understand what I'm referring to. The lyrics fit perfectly irregardless of the song's true meaning. That's the beauty of music - we all interpret differently.

Like many others, I have a different interpretation of this song. I consider this as being my Evanescence theme song because it fits how I feel very well. Here's what the lyrics mean to me:
"How can you see into my eyes, like open doors? Leading you down into my core, where I've become so numb."
To me, this means: People will look into my eyes like open doors but will miss my emotion and the real me hidden behind my eyes. It'll lead them down into my core but they won't feel how numb I feel without myself.
"Without a soul, my spirit's sleeping somewhere cold. Until you find it there and lead it back home."
To me, this means: I usually feel without a soul. I feel like my spirit's somewhere. In a way, I'd say my spirit's in the computer. This is where I am awake. But it's like being awake in a dream. It's like my spirit's lost, not with me and needs to be led back to me.
"Wake me up. Wake me up inside. I can't wake up. Wake me up inside. Save me. Call my name and save me from the dark. Wake me up. Bid my blood to run. I can't wake up. Before I come undone. Save me. Save me from the nothing I've become."
To me, this means: I feel like I need to wake up. I feel like I'm asleep. I feel like I need to be waken up inside where my soul is sleeping. But I also feel like I can't wake up. I also feel like I need to be saved. I feel like my blood is frozen inside my veins and I need it to run before I truly become unreal. I feel like I've become nothing. I feel like without my soul, I'm truly nothing.
"Now that I know what I'm without, you can't just leave me. Breathe into me and make me real. Bring me to life."
To me, this means: I've learned that I'm without my soul and that the people in my life and myself can't leave me. I feel like I need to be made real. Like my soul needs to be brought to life, bringing me to life.
"Bring me to life. I've been livin' a lie. There's nothing inside. Bring me to life. Frozen inside without your touch, without your love darling. Only you are the life among the dead."
To me, this means: I feel like I need to be brought to life. That I've been living a lie. I feel like there's nothing inside. I feel frozen without my soul and without its love. But my soul is the life among the dead in a way.
"All this time, I can't believe I couldn't see. Kept in the dark, but you were right in front of me. I've been sleeping a thousand years it seems, got to open my eyes to everything. Without a thought, without a soul, without a life, don't let me die here. There must be something more."
To me, this means: For years I couldn't see who I really was. So to speak, I was "kept in the dark" but my soul was "right in front of me". Knowing who I was made me feel like I'd been asleep one thousand years and that I have to open my eyes, finally. I feel without a thought, without a soul, and without a lie and I don't want my soul to die. I know there must be something more for my soul.
Well, that was my interpretation on the song...

Can people stop referring their songs to Christianity it's not a Christian band. It's lame. They have said that. Please stop. it's annoying.

I belive that these lyrics try to explain the feeling of emptiness left behind when someone that we love leaves.
The feeling that our soul also left with that person, and that we're nothing that way. Just an empty, cold, dark thing.
And, to live (not just to survive), we need that person to be with us, by our side.
That, basically, that someone is everyting we are.

i think that what evanescence is trying to say is that you know when your asleep its like your dead because you dont know whats going on around you, and when your awake your alive because your awake and you do know what going on around you. well...in the video clip its like shes trying to wake up from that nightmare which means she wants that guy to safe her and bring her back to life, like wake her up and stop her from dreaming :)
