I believe this song is about her ex-boyfriend (lead singer of seether.) maybe he was abusing alchohol or even cheating on her. This song can have a few different meanings. You'll need to listen to the song to come up with your own interpretation.

I htink this song is about a state of confusion for whoever she's with. He says he loves her, but he won't take whatever "the next step" may be. And how, amy loves him, but if he doesn't "make up his mind" then she has to leave, which is what she doesn't want to happen. He has no idea whether he loves her so she has to let him go "can't keep believing we're only deciving ourselves and I'm sick of this lie" and she's upset that she has to leave him. When he was apparently drunk, he says he loves her, but when he's sober, he nver tells her that he loves her, and never calls back or whatever. I really hope that made sense. Letting go is hard for her, "how could I have burned paradise" should I let you fall lose it all he's evrything in the world to her but he doens't love her, she has no choice. That's my interpretaton anyway.

I think she's talking to a guy who only comes to her when he's needy, because he's with another girl (the one he's with when he's "sober"). It's hard for her to tell him to make up his mind, because deep inside, she knows he'll choose the other girl, and when amy and him are together, it's a "paradise" for her. After a time, though, she gets "sick of the lie" and finally tells him to decide. Amy loves him, but if he doesn't love her, she's better alone. The guy knows she loves him, so he took advantage of it, but she surprises him with a sudden firmness. This is for one of my dearest friends. There's no reason to suffer for someone who doesn't really love you.

Amy herself said that a lot of the songs on "the open door" were about her breakup with shaun morgan (aka lead singer of seether, best band ever), and getting over him. I think that shaun had an alcohol problem... And I think amy wrote this about him.

Actually it is a song about her ex boyfriend the lead singer of seether he was never sober and she wants him to choose between her or the alcohol and in the end it says I've made up your mind basically meant she left him and he can go back to drinking. She did an interview about it and it was on the radio station. no the guitarist she was involved with had his song already ever heard my immortal yep that's about him you guys should watch music bios sometime. just a helpfull hint peace out

The inspiration for 'Sober' was made clear after Amy Lee's former boyfriend, Seether frontman Shaun Morgan, checked himself into rehab for "unspecified problems" in late July 2006. Lee stated that she's not worried about listeners knowing what inspired the song: "Call Me When You're Sober' says something that's impossible to hide from. I'm stuck with everyone knowing exactly what I'm talking about. And if there's consequences for that, which there are, then I have to face them. But it's true, and it really happened, and it meant so much to me and felt so good to just blurt it out that it was worth it. And I think it's a really great song and I'm really proud of it."

2004 I was at the Fallen tour concert with Seether and EV and wouldn't you know it.. Shaun was drunk and flirting with these two girls. Honestly, I think this song's about how Shaun had a drinking problem and was abusive or cheating on Amy nonstop and she was just sick of it. She said herself the song was kind of supposed to be humorous cause she laughed saying "haha I made your mind up for you, I'm out"

Yeah it's about shaun morgan. He's in that "rock star" frame of mind. being addicted to all sorts of things. She got fed up with it. And why "she made up his mind" is because he showed no signs of basically wanting to change the problem, so she just left. BUT I HEARD (this could just be a rumor) that she basically drove him to a rehab clinic and left him there, just broke it off and told him to call her when he's better. (call me when you're sober) she jsut doesn't want to deal with it. She loves him but she's not going to put up with that problem anymore. It's his, not hers. She shouldn't have to be the one dealing with it

Honestly, I don't really know WHO this is about. But I think that in this song, "she's" (whom ever she may be) just tired of being the sideline girl. Meaning, that when everything is fine wherever HE is...he doesn't really have any impending need to be around her or treat her like she's WORTH something to him. But when he's "hyped" he can feel like he's 'the man' and do what he wants and treat her however he wants to. Honestly, I'm glad she made up her mind, because I'd be tired of going through that crap too.

I don't exactly know how to say this but I will try.. she loves someone, and thinks he loves her back. he never calls or makes any effort to tell her he loves her or anything. she knows she needs to get away from it. doesn't want to, but in the end she is strong enough to do so.

I heard many rumors this song is technically for "Shaun Morgon", however you spell his name, because he had some drinking problem, but I have no idea if it is true or not, but that is what I heard the song was for.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's about the Seether front man. Because 50 others have the same interpretation! Please read the other posts first.

Ok most of these I read are sooooo wrong (no offense guys). The narrator is talking about a guy she's having an affair with and shay says that he should make up his mind of who he wants to be with. Near the end of the song she says she regrets ever being with him and she breaks it off making up his mind for him. Also the "sobr" part is about how she thinks his cheating on his wife or who ever is something he's addicted to.

Amy wrote this song about Shaun Morgan from Seether. He was using drugs and putting drugs as his top priority instead of her... the lyrics "Make up your mind" could be about choosing her or the drugs. People were hatin on Amy because of this song.. saying she should have kept quiet about their private life and about Shaun using drugs because Shaun didnt say anything about her By coincidence Shaun went into rehab the day this song was released

I think this song is about her ex boyfriend who drinks a lot and when he drinks he get out of hand and she is sick of his lies and when he is not drunk he go's to her and says he is sorry and he won't do it again but there he go's drinking agian ! He only does that because he knows that she will forgive him. When she says "call me when your sober" she means call her when he is completly made up his mine about drinking and he'll stop! Really stop! I love evanescence !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!¡

"It's very obvious who it's about. I know that people would read between the lines and think it's about my ex-boyfriend Shaun Morgan [of Seether], but I wanted to be completely clear. I needed so bad to say exactly what I was feeling for so long. Music is therapy for me. It's my outlet for every negative thing I've ever been through. It lets me turn something bad into something beautiful." It's about Shaun. Amy said so herself and the meaning of the song really is qutie clear cut.

I have heard on a radio station that it was about her (I think ex) boyfriend Shaun Morgan and his alcohol problem.

I think it Amy's talking about a guy who's with another girl, who 'comes to her when he's needy', as another anonymous suggested. In the "How could I have burned paradise" you'll notice right after comes "You were never mine" so I think he's accusing her of ruining everything, so she's asking him HOW she could have done that, he was never hers. I think the lines "Couldn't take the blame, Sick with shame, Must be exausting to lose your own game" (I think I might have spelt that wrong) she's saying the other girl found out, he couldn't take the blame, and lost his own game by losing both girls. She's also been asking him to make up his mind, and when he didn't she made up his mind for him ("Just get your things, I've made up your mind"). That's what I think. 1 2 Next Page >
