Amy's sister was becoming obsessed with Brittany Spears and other pop singers, and started dressing like them at I think it was age 7 or 8... So Amy told her that celebrities can't make your life perfect, their lives aren't perfect, and you should never copy someone just because it's popular. Then she wrote the song about it- her sister (Carrie I think?)inspired it

Amy's little sister, Carrie (8 at the time), got obsessed with popstars like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Carrie started to dress like those two popstars and this angered Amy and this was the inspiration for the song.

I think Everybody's Fool is a really strong song. Imagine you're Amy's little sister and you hear that your big sister wrote you a song. And when you read the lyrics, you see there's nothing positive in it.

I really like this song actually. It seems like this song is telling us to be ourselves and not try to be like one of those popstars who makes music videoes where they only wear a tiny skirt and a bra.

"She has stated on a number of occasions that she would never flash her breasts or engage in other publicity stunts that would draw attention to herself. In fact, in the music video for "Everybody's Fool," she aimed to mock such artists by suggesting that celebrities who use sex to appeal to an audience are, in fact, merely peddling "lies" (the unifying theme of the music video). Many fans praise Lee for her refusal to emulate other celebrities by using sex appeal in her music."

I just wanted to say, yeah it's about celebrities and how they hide who they are in actuality, but the laugh by the girl on the elevator near the end of the music video is really freaky at the end, sends chills down my spine.

It is describing people who are trying to hard to fit in, trying to be something they're not. They wear a certain style of clothes to fit in etc. The basic message is you are only fooling yourself and everybody's laughin at you for being a fool hence the title. Basically just be yourself

I think this song is a girl talking to herself about how she wanted to be recognized but now everyone thinks she's someone she's not

I don't think it's about herself.
i think it's about demons.
she says 'somehow now you're everybody's fool''.
i don't really think that the video has anything much to do with it.
''more lies about a world that never was and never will be.''
demons will try to fool you into believing anything except for God. They tell you lies and deceive everyone. The sad thing is that most people believe it.
''you know you've got everybody fooled.''
yes, the demons know when they have tricked you. and when they do trick you, they are terribly happy with themselves.
''no flaws when you're pretending.''
they demons pretend to be anything they need to be to get you to believe what they want you to believe. when they are busy pretending, they can make up anything, make up the perfect, flawless lie.
''you don't know how youve betrayed me.''
she was believing in the lies that the demons were telling her. at first, even she didn't know how they had betrayed her. Then she realizes it and comes to say that they don't know.
"without the mask, where will you hide? can't find yourself lost in your lie."
without the mask of satan, demons have nowhere to hide. once they start lying to make you believe a lie, they get lost in it and continue lying to everyone.
"I know the truth now, I know who you are. and I don't love you anymore."
she realized that everything she had believed was a lie. That's hard to deal with. She knows where the lies were coming from. and she doesn't want to love that anymore.
"you're not real and you can't save me."
the demons aren't real to her anymore. She's seen through them now and finds that they can't save her, all they do is kill, destroy, and lie.

does that help with anything? =]

Ok, I'm no expert on songs but I am going to share my interpretation of this song what I think it means. First of all, I really don't think it's about Britney Spears like a couple of people have said, I just think it's about someone who is pretending to be something or someone they are not, and not showing who they really are. Telling people what they want to hear just for attention and to be noticed, and in the end they realize they are the fool because they are lying to themselves as well, and now people see them for what they really are....I could be wrong but that's what I think it's about. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong...thanks.

Amy was angry at how her little sister was trying to be like celebrities...ones who pretend to be something there not...the perfect life they portray themselves as having is just a front. A prime example of this is britney spears.

I think this song is about Amy being tired of all the lies about the celebrities, and them being fake and everything. I think she wants to show the world that not everyone has it perfect and some people are hurting and are tired of all the fakers and posers. And in the music video, she's also tired of her being addressed as a faker or something she's not when she really wants to be herself. If you've watched the music video, she is an actress for a brand called "Lies" and she doesn't want to live the lies or whatever. And when she drinks the medicine, breaks the mirror and stabs her hand, and tries to drown herself in the water, I think she's showing that she doesn't want to live that life anymore and she just wants to be herself. I really like this song and I think some people *coughcough* preps, fakers, and posers *coughcough* need to watch the music video and get it in their mind that not everyone is perfect or as good as they think they are!

I don't know about all of you, but the meaning seemed to scream at me loudly and clearly. I think it's about how society wants everyone to see celebreties as perfect and flawless 24/7 and what a total sham this notion is!! No one wakes up in the morning looking perfect and no one, no matter how famous or rich has the perfect face, body, etc. I think this song and it's video clearly drive this home!(notice in the beginning of the video you see how beautiful Amy looks in all her "adds" and "commericals", but in the hotel room she is scratching out her own picture in a magazine, yelling at herself in the mirror and screaming at her own face on a billboard add). The fact that she is crying in private and punches her own reflection in the mirror shows how she realizes what a lie the whole thing is and how she can never live up to the "image" that she is expected to portray. Also in the video, if you notice the words that come on the screen toward the end of the song are "crazy", "ugly" and "worthless" - a drastic change from the perfect little actress/model that we see during the first half of the video. Watch the video several times. The word "lies" appears in this videos over 30 times....it gives one pause for much thought!

Actually, does any of you know this one quote?

"My little sister was really getting into these, I don't want to offend anyone, but like really fake, cheesy, slutty female cracker-box idols, and it really pissed me off. She started dressing like them and she was like 8 years old. So I gave her the talk and I wrote a song."

Amy Lee said that of course! "Everybody's Fool" does deal with that.

It's about those public icons, like Britney Spears and such, that everyone seems to love no matter how faulted they are.

Not a very good interpretation, but it's the truth...

This song is about how the media is using her by changing her into something she's not.

You guys are all really close. The way I see it, the "girl" she is talking about is not one specific person, but the unrealistic American (world) view of "beauty".

ok... this song is about Amy's sister (NOT THE ONE THAT DIED) i dont know the actual details but i know that... the music video itself was sorta what she thought about Britney Spears.... her and amy were like enemies Britney quotes "Who is this goth freak?" while talking about amy.. tho later when Britney was going through all her hard times Amy rushed to her defense because she knows what it feels like to be hurt and broken and wouldnt wish it upon anyone.. even her enemies... but that didnt happen until after the music video

"I know as a matter of fact that this song is about Britney Spears, being a great singer, then turning into...let's just say going the opposite direction." --- Something tells me that Evanescence wouldn't waste their time writing about Britney Spears....

Carrie Lee’s fascination with pop stars such as Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera was the inspiration for the song. Amy Lee said that Carrie, 8 at the time, started to dress as those two superstars and that it angered Amy. It is track #3 and the fourth and final single off of Fallen. The song debuted at #23. This is because it was thought that Imaginary was going to be the fourth single off the album. However, it was decided that Everybody's Fool would be released and therefore affected the promotion of the single. It's about her sister and others like her that look up to the wrong people for role models. kids shouldn't be idolizing people like brittney spears who are even more corrupt than we are. what they need it a real person who understands them and doesn't try to be perfect. that's amy lee. she's not everybody's fool, she's the real deal (:
