I relate to this song very much. Someone did so much for someone else, and the someone else never thanked them and just held them down and hurt them. This person may be very far or way or have died, but the person being affected still is hurting from this person. A long time ago the person loved the other person very much. "Now I'm bound by the life you left behind" explains that the person left the other person's life, and hurt them by leaving. "Your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams. your voice it chased away all the sanity in me" Clearly the person being affected doesn't like to talk, dream, or hear about this person. "These wounds won't seem to heal, this pain is just too real, there's just too much that time cannot erase" The person is being affected by the other person's mistakes and the things they did to hurt he/she. "But though you're still with me, I've been alone all along" The person affected may still be holding the other person in their heart, but the other person isn't there with them literally. I love this song soooooooo much, it totally relates to me. If my interpretation is bad, sorry.

My interpretation of this song is that she is writing about a part of her, that she feels has died. Because she is so tricky with her words I'm not absolutely certain, but when she says "Though your'e still with me I've been alone all along" I think she means herself. Think about it...

The song has nothing to do with love story or something like that...it has to do with death...Amy had a little sister who died (I don't know how)...This song has been written for her death... Check pleaze: "...I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone..." "...These wounds won't seem to heal This pain is just too real There's just too much that time cannot erase..." "...Now I'm bound by the life you left behind..." "...And if you have to leave I wish that you would just leave 'Cause your presence still lingers here..." Well...you can see that Amy sings about her pain for her sister's death... Thank you...

Growing up, as a child in Switzerland, she had an imaginary friend she called "Antonio the Panda" as he was indeed an imaginary Panda with a Spanish accent. One day, Antonio fell ill to the AIDS virus, which was considerably popular within the homosexual male culture in the 1980's. As he wept in sorrow at the anal infestation, young Amy wiped away his tears. She would occasionally visualize a giant AIDS cell, and retaliatively attempt to fight it away (shedding light on some of the lyrics within the song). Verses towards the center of the lyrical structure of the song express the intensity and impact of Antonio the gay Panda's passing. His voice, and Spanish Panda squeaks remain in her mind, and linger with her in relevance to her lack of sanity which has never truely recovered. The final verses of the song elaborate upon how the passing of Antonio the Panda have effected her in present day tense. Expressing how his face "haunts" her, as though pictures of Panda's occasionally pop up in every day life. And that, Evanescence fans, is the true meaning of this song, straight from the horses mouth (or Panda's ass, more appropriately).

"suppressed by all my childish fears" The abandoned person is trying to move on from the pain & memories, but feels frustrated, stunted, and stuck in the pain the relationship created for them. "I'm so tired of being here" "suppressed" The person is no longer with them physically (they were eventually left or abandoned by choice), but the pain is still there mentally & the person feels angry/frustrated about it & wants to move on. "and if you have to leave, I wish that you would just leave" The person may be talking to both to that person who left them, but also to their own self post-abandonment; & pain they feel inside & their anger & frustration about their inability to escape from it no matter how hard they try or how much they try to comfort their own self. Now is the transition where they talk both about the relationship(how they tried to help & how much of themselves they gave to the abandoner), but also they are talking to the pain and destruction the abandonment caused in its wake (and now how they are trying to comfort their own self after the relationship ended & reclaim their life back, but its not working & the person/pain still has a hold of them). "your presence still lingers here, and it won't leave me alone" "these wounds won't seem to heal, this pain is just too real, there's just too much that time can not erase" "When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears And I held your hand through all of these years But you(the pain) still have All of me" The relationship used to be a positive force in songwriter's life & they used to be at peace (or so they think). "You used to captivate me By your resonating light" "my once pleasant dreams" But since the person left them they feel only pain at the thought of them & the pain they are now stuck with or bound to. "Now I'm bound by the life you left behind Your face it haunts My once pleasant dreams Your voice it chased away All the sanity in me" The person is trying so hard to get over the pain, but has now realized the relationship was not as good or positive as they originally believed & that the other person was never really there for them (they were neglectful from the very beginning even before the abandonment); the only thing left from the relationship is the pain it caused, but never actually the person. In fact, the pain is the only thing that was really there. "I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone (the person) But though you're still with me (the pain) I've been alone all along" The pain is the immortal.
