My Immortal...My favorite song in the whole world. Here's my interpretation.
I relate to this song very much.

Someone did so much for someone else, and the someone else never thanked them and just held them down and hurt them. This person may be very far or way or have died, but the person being affected still is hurting from this person. A long time ago the person loved the other person very much. "Now I'm bound by the life you left behind" explains that the person left the other person's life, and hurt them by leaving. "Your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams. your voice it chased away all the sanity in me" Clearly the person being affected doesn't like to talk, dream, or hear about this person. "These wounds won't seem to heal, this pain is just too real, there's just too much that time cannot erase" The person is being affected by the other person's mistakes and the things they did to hurt he/she. "But though you're still with me, I've been alone all along" The person affected may still be holding the other person in their heart, but the other person isn't there with them literally.

I love this song soooooooo much, it totally relates to me. If my interpretation is bad, sorry.

Okay...first off I believe deep down in my heart that this song was written by Amy. Second, I think this song is very emotionally deep.
My interpretation of this song is that she is writing about a part of her, that she feels has died. Because she is so tricky with her words I'm not absolutely certain, but when she says "Though your'e still with me I've been alone all along" I think she means herself. Think about it...

OK, guys please let me tell you what I know about the song and if after reading this, you check again the lyrics you'll see that I'm right...
The song has nothing to do with love story or something like that...it has to do with death...Amy had a little sister who died (I don't know how)...This song has been written for her death...

Check pleaze:
"...I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone..."

"...These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase..."

"...Now I'm bound by the life you left behind..."

"...And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
'Cause your presence still lingers here..."

Well...you can see that Amy sings about her pain for her sister's death...
Thank you...

This is the true definition of the song, Amy Lee told me herself over dinner on a mission in Berlin.

Growing up, as a child in Switzerland, she had an imaginary friend she called "Antonio the Panda" as he was indeed an imaginary Panda with a Spanish accent.

One day, Antonio fell ill to the AIDS virus, which was considerably popular within the homosexual male culture in the 1980's. As he wept in sorrow at the anal infestation, young Amy wiped away his tears.
She would occasionally visualize a giant AIDS cell, and retaliatively attempt to fight it away (shedding light on some of the lyrics within the song).

Verses towards the center of the lyrical structure of the song express the intensity and impact of Antonio the gay Panda's passing. His voice, and Spanish Panda squeaks remain in her mind, and linger with her in relevance to her lack of sanity which has never truely recovered.

The final verses of the song elaborate upon how the passing of Antonio the Panda have effected her in present day tense. Expressing how his face "haunts" her, as though pictures of Panda's occasionally pop up in every day life.

And that, Evanescence fans, is the true meaning of this song, straight from the horses mouth (or Panda's ass, more appropriately).

this song could be about a evil spirit that was once in the life of that person (who sings) and she wants it to leave but she still feels the presence of it and also can be for the abuse of a parent.

I feel this song is about an idea & expectation of what a relationship is supposed to be & their disappointment in that idea not being fulfilled by the other person. It's about a person who was once in what they believed was a good relationship & then the person left by choice after a turbulent time(a lover, but more likely a parent who abandoned them as a child or was neglectful) & the scars it leaves when the person abandons the other.
"suppressed by all my childish fears"

The abandoned person is trying to move on from the pain & memories, but feels frustrated, stunted, and stuck in the pain the relationship created for them.
"I'm so tired of being here" "suppressed"

The person is no longer with them physically (they were eventually left or abandoned by choice), but the pain is still there mentally & the person feels angry/frustrated about it & wants to move on.
"and if you have to leave, I wish that you would just leave"

The person may be talking to both to that person who left them, but also to their own self post-abandonment; & pain they feel inside & their anger & frustration about their inability to escape from it no matter how hard they try or how much they try to comfort their own self. Now is the transition where they talk both about the relationship(how they tried to help & how much of themselves they gave to the abandoner), but also they are talking to the pain and destruction the abandonment caused in its wake (and now how they are trying to comfort their own self after the relationship ended & reclaim their life back, but its not working & the person/pain still has a hold of them).
"your presence still lingers here, and it won't leave me alone" "these wounds won't seem to heal, this pain is just too real, there's just too much that time can not erase"

"When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you(the pain) still have
All of me"

The relationship used to be a positive force in songwriter's life & they used to be at peace (or so they think).
"You used to captivate me
By your resonating light" "my once pleasant dreams"

But since the person left them they feel only pain at the thought of them & the pain they are now stuck with or bound to.
"Now I'm bound by the life you left behind
Your face it haunts
My once pleasant dreams
Your voice it chased away
All the sanity in me"

The person is trying so hard to get over the pain, but has now realized the relationship was not as good or positive as they originally believed & that the other person was never really there for them (they were neglectful from the very beginning even before the abandonment); the only thing left from the relationship is the pain it caused, but never actually the person. In fact, the pain is the only thing that was really there.
"I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone (the person)
But though you're still with me (the pain)
I've been alone all along"

The pain is the immortal.

One of the reasons I think this song is about childhood is because of the video in which there are many scenes of innocent children playing & Amy is literally up in a tree (climbing trees is typically something only children do). Of course the video does not always exactly follow the song, I just thought the childhood images were interesting & perhaps important deliberate additions.

My interpretation of this song... kind of has always reminded me of a mother/child relationship. "When you'd cry I'd wipe away all of your tears," perhaps that could be about a child getting a scrape, or being sick. "When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears," maybe a child having a bad dream. "And I held your hand through all of these years," like, the child is growing up, getting older. Also, "You used to captivate me, by your resonating light," I also think it's a child, because children are usually very alive. They're full of energy and light. And sometimes they can be very captivating. Especially to a parent. So I kind of think the song could be about that.

i think that this song has a lot of meaning to it. She has gone throught a lot. I think that someone that she has been friends with and more than friends with for a very long time is pasing away. This person wasent just some ordinary person. They understod each other. Best friends. There is something that she also regreats doing. She thinks that the death of this person is her fault. But in reality it isnt...she is wanting someone else to reach out and help her through these ttimes

I think that It could be about someone cheating I suppose. "I've been alone all along." I dunno...that line just seems to hit me with "CHEATER" because like...the artist could've really liked the person, and their heart was broken by them.

this song reminds me of my father. he is horrible, a druggy and a bully and just messed up i the head. i feel that this song says it all tbh. the memory haunts me and i will never be able to move on or forget and forget "these wounds wont seem to heal, this pain is just too real, theres just too much that time cannot erase". my sister sees him now, i dont know how she can look at him. i feel like i have no one to talk to hence the reason im telling all of you lot! :L i think this is a good song for me cuz my 6 year old self remembers it and it will stay with me for eternity.

I believe that the song is about Amy losing someone, but not in death. I think it means she lost someone in a relationship, or the person literally went insane.

This song seems obvious when you've seen someone loose their spouse after many years of marriage. My father died after he and my mother had been married for 51 years. Every day for her is spent thinking about him. Psychologists say that you can become so angry and hurt about someone who has gone that you may actually blame and be angry at the person who died. You did all these things for them, you took care of them, the least they could do is stick around. One of the reasons why I think the song is so beautiful is because it describes so well a feeling that is so hard to describe. You loved the person more than life itself, they were part of you, they're dead and now you feel as if there is nothing left of you but the past.

meaning for IMMORTAL: Not mortal; exempt from liability to die; undying; imperishable; lasting forever; having unlimited, or eternal, existance. this song defines a person who left physically but continues to live with thru every emotions felt, good or bad....

My ex boyfriend is who this reminds me of. We were together for about three years. When he was alive he said this song reminded him of me...why I don't know, but now after hearing it, it hit me like a ton of bricks. We had a deep passionate love in the beginning. Then he became physically abusive. I stayed after numerous attacks because of love and children. Then it came to be too much after he broke my back along my spine. I've had multiple surgeries and am forever hurt. I was angry for so long, but ended up befriending him because I still loved him. We moved on in our lives, I got married and he had other girlfriends etc. But, his exwife moved away w/their three children, his relationship ended, and he ended up taking his own life. This song reminds me of our relationship and the fact that I still have dreams of him and the pain and hurt is always here and time will never take away the memories.

I believe that this song is about her relationship with God, how He has been there with her through everything in her life, even when she didn't want Him. The chorus is God telling her.... "When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears And I held your hand through all of these years But you still have All of me" ....he is telling her that through it all, He was still there.
