Right.
I've always thought this song is about stalking or rape and I couldn't work out which. I looked up stoplight just in case I didn't know wtf I was talking about.
Well stoplight could be the light on a car when it stops, so maybe her stalker(s) has stopped outside her house. So she's locking the door and not looking back because she's scared. Also, my friend just said that her mum locks the car door at traffic lights... :S

She's getting changed, undressing in the dark, and not letting them see her, hiding from them. all of them. They'll never know the way that what they've said has freaked her out and made her paranoid. She can't believe they'd try and get her to do the things they want her to do, which is whatever the stalker's demands are, though that's where my idea of rape came in :S
the emphasis on the you DON'T know me seems to be contradicting them. They believe they know her, but they're wrong.

They think she belongs to them. They've got her cornered, so just come out and get it over (again, I thought that might be rape)
etc etc

The next bit might be a dream. They're haunting her in her dreams, she's terrified, they've all got her. She can't sleep, because then she'll experience these nightmares.

Wow, I've been reading all your ideas and they could all fit somewhere into the lyrics. I just wanted to say that when she sings
'Nothing I bleed for tormenting/I'm losing my mind, and you just stand there and stare as my world divides'
If you listen to it carefully, you can hear the anger and desperation in her voice-it's exaggerated and given more feeling than any other part in the song.
So this song really has to be related to her and not something she's written for someone elses point of view. Coz' you can hear the reality in her voice. Thanks :D x

I think I'm the only one who thinks it's about meth abuse... but I have my right to interpret this however I want. I'll show some examples.

"You'll never know the way your words have haunted me.
I can't believe you'd ask these things of me.
You don't know me."
--how meth changes people and makes them do things they don't like to do. for instance, stealing, killing, betraying their families, etc. anyone who knows a meth addict can agree.

"You belong to me,
My snow white queen.
There's nowhere to run, so let's just get it over.
Soon I know you'll see,
You're just like me.
Don't scream anymore my love, 'cause all I want is you."
--describing how hard it is to overcome the addiction. I guess you'd have to know how addictions are to know the feelings of an addict.

"Wake up in a dream.
Frozen fear.
All your hands on me.
I can't scream"
--realizing you're caught up in the avalanche of addiction and feeling helpless.

"I feel you in my dreams and I don't sleep."
--It's pretty common for meth users to not sleep for very long periods of time.

"I can't save your life,
Though nothing I bleed for is more tormenting.
I'm losing my mind and you just stand there and stare as my world divides."
--meth can't save the life as in can't solve your problems. meth is a tormenting drug, and in the end, leaves you alone with your world falling apart.

just because amy didn't have a meth problem doesn't mean she doesn't know anyone that is affected by it. I don't and have never done it but it affects my life everyday.

I always thought this song was about rape or abuse....yet when I went through and read everyones interpretations I thought more intently about it. I think it is primarily about stalkers but Amy wanted everyone to relate to her song, being where she made it vague as to where everyone can interpret it to their experiences so they can relate to the song as well as she can......just my opinion

In issue 88 of "Rock Sound," Amy revealed exactly what the song is really about. She explained how the song is based on "scary experiences." She explained how many nights she was forced to stay in hotels, because a stalker was erm...stalking her. She took part of the title from EvBoard, as her user name is "Snow White." The word "Queen" was presumably added because of how a stalker would over idolize a victim.

Amy's description of the song: [1]

I went through some weird experiences with stalkers. It's weird how it works. My lyrics are so intimate that people feel like they really know me, and I don't know them at all. My privacy had been completely invaded and there were a couple of nights where I couldn't stay at my house. So I wrote a song about it through the eyes of the stalker, and with my perspective, too.

Even though this is what the song is supposedly about, there could also be an alternate, or second, meaning. I mean Amy was in abusive relationships with Ben Moody, Shaun Morgan, and her ex-mnager Rider. This could be about one of them abusing her, even raping her. but I guess we won't know unless Amy comes out and confirms that. So for now I say stick with what she said and nothing more. I mean this is Amy's song.

I think that it is about stalkers. The chorus seems to state that pretty clear. "You belong to me my snow white queen" meaning the stalker sees her as a queen and is just obsessed with her. "There's no where to run" meaning they will find her anywhere she goes. I do have one question though, was she actually stalked by a lot of people at one point?

the first time i heard this song i thought it was about rape. cuz it sais you you belong to me, my snow white queen, and maybe thats what he said to her or something. also it sais theres no where to run so lets just get it over. this to me does sound like rape. but i dont know it could very well be about stalkers. or anything for that matter

Everyone knows that this song is about stalkers and I really like how is changes from the 'stalker's' point of view to Amy Lee's, and it's really well put together, as it sounds stressed out and tense, and in the bridge, when you're back in Amy Lee's perspective, you can really feel her mind calling out for help and just letting everything out as the song comes to its peak.

I was quite suprised when I heard that this song was based off of a stalker experience. I have always thought of it as a rape song... When I saw this website with all of the different interpretations, it blew me away! It changed my perspective and I could see it all of the ways that it was portrayed. Still, most of the lyrics could be used to describe a rape experience. Either way, I think that Amy Lee has now written the most controversial song that I have ever heard!

I reckon this song is pretty much open to interpretation, it seems to be about some form of abuser or a person who causes this person to feel insecure i mean there's plenty of evidence of it being about a stalker "You don't know me" and it being a sexual abuser "nothing i've bled for is more tormenting" It was most likely about the stalker but a good artist, and that be poet, author, or painter, tend to leave their work open to alternative interpretation. Evanescence rock big time!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I see it a little different. The first time I heard the song, it did seem like an abusive relationship, but, after a couple of times of listening to it, I heard it differently.
The song, and the way she sings it, seems to change tenor. Like one moment it's the 'victim', so meek and upset, and then the 'attacker', cool and controlled.
I was just wondering if anyone sort of found this to be a thing of dominance? Like a master/slave situation? It seems like it to me, but I have heard here that people hear what they know...
Does anyone else hear this note?

While the most literal explanation (and that of Amy Lee herself) is one of stalkers, I think there could also be an alternate explanation, which is baisicly about how critics/paparazzi are always trying to get into famous peoples (Amy Lee's?) life, and how the public feel like they own the lives of famous people

Well, I don't know about you guys, but when I first heard it I thought by 'Snow white queen' they meant someone innocent, who is untainted and spotless and has never done any wrong to the world. And by saying "You belong to me, my snow white queen" they wanted that person's innocence, and were calling them their queen as either a sign of mockery or they meant the person is better then they are by never doing any wrong. And they want to kill the snow white queen, so that maybe some of her innocence will belong to them too.

Reminds me of the plot for Broken Pieces, where a killer/ rapist whispers in the ear of the girl "Now I have a piece of you." And also of a book I forget the name of but it was about a woman of royalty who met a man in her garden and he told her how to live forever and never get old, so she could be with him. The way of that was to kill a young girl and bathe in her blood or just bathing in a young girl's blood in general. She used it in her make up and had girls she called 'my girls' and the bottom pages of the book were made to look bloodstained. In the end she gets caught though. But this song totally made me think of that.

Anyway, that's what I thought. I know it's wrong but I like that better then just a stalker or the common rapist theory... Though it makes sense its not using much imagination lol

Well, there were some pretty interesting interpretations, but for me, the main reasons for the song was about stalkers and/or rape.

I've always found the song haunting and inspiring at the same time (novelist with twisted murder and mayhem stories...hehe...)

The most far fetched interpretation I have heard so far is the Meth idea... -.- I personally have no idea where it could be about drugs (I'm a novelist, I don't like interpreting things too deeply, and man! That is deep!).

Therefore, I've no sound interpretation.

Well, Amy Lee is a christian. Satan trying to take you out of your relationship with God for himself can feel like you're being stalked by temptation. He comes for you in many ways and at any time.

When I 1st listened to this song i kind of thought it was about a girl...like the verses where about the emotional pressure she was under and then in the chorus she bursted about her emotions for that girl, especialy with the lines 'you belong to me,my snow white queen' it's like she was talking to her.. I'm not talking about something clearly lesbian, but maybe an occasional lust for an other girl, let's say. But after i read the meanings you've posted here, and also the Amy's explanation about the song,I now believe it's about a stalker or somekind of abuse...Anyway,what i strongly believe is that lyrics have a magical way to transform into whatever anyone thinks,so they express any feeling or thought. It's up to everyone's mind.Evanescence has achieved this one more time,I really love them..
