I don't know, but the thing with the hospital is not a bad idea. Maybe it's about terry when he had the stroke. And the line "though I patiently waited bedside for the death of today" just confirms this theory. And I read, at first they didn't know wether terry would survive. Amy was very worried, so she wrote the lyrics and together with terry the music ( which is great, I think ). But the line with lisbon could be about the time she had the relationship with shaun and missed him when she was in lisbon. Amy didn't write it on one day, parts of whisper she first used for bring me to life or something. Well, never mind about that, the song is great!

if you watch in one of the evanescence interviews terry says he liked this song the most and I suspect its because it's about him because he was put into hospital after suffering a stroke

Yea. The explanation for Your Star is that she wrote it at Terry's side while he was in the hospital. I do believe I read that somewhere (Other than here and that was a reasonable site).

Well that would explain the thing about mechanical lights-all the hospital equipment

I can see what you guys mean by the song being about Terry in the hospital. I can't see your star I can't see your star though I patiently waited, bedside, for the death of today I can't see your star the mechanical lights of Lisbon frightened it away [[SIGNIFIES HE MAY HAVE HAD THE STROKE IN LISBON. ALSO THAT AMY WAITED FOR THE NIGHT TIME..FOR ANOTHER DAY TO BEGIN]] and I'm alone now me and all I stood for we're wandering now all in parts in pieces, swim lonely find your own way out [[THE CHORUS: AMY'S ALONE WITHOUT TERRY. THEY'RE BEST BUD'S Y'KNOW? THE KEY TERM 'WE'RE' SHOWS ABOUT THE BAND IS IN PIECES WITHOUT HIM. THE BIT ABOUT HIM FINDING HIS OWN WAY OUT I SUPPOSE ABOUT HIM BEING IN A COMA.. THEY CAN'T WAKE HIM, HE HAS TO WAKE ON HIS OWN.]] I can't see your star I can't see your star how can the darkness feel so wrong? [[THE DARKNESS BIT..THE FACT THAT HE'S IN A COMA WHICH IS LIKE A SLEEP, HE MAY NOT WAKE ALIVE]] and I'm alone now me and all I stood for we're wandering now all in parts in pieces, swim lonely find your own way out [[^^CHORUS AGAIN^^]] So far away its growing colder without your love why can't you feel me calling your name? can't break the silence its breaking me [[COMA TERM AGAIN, HE'S IN SUCH A DEEP 'SLEEP' THAT THEY CAN FEEL HIM SLIPPING AWAY. AMY APPARENTLY TRIES TO CALL FOR HIM AND HIS SILENCE IS TEARING HER APART.]] all my fears turn to rage [[SHE WAS SCARED AT FIRST BUT NOW SHE'S ANGRY THAT DEATH MAY TAKE HER FRIEND AWAY]] and I'm alone now me and all I stood for we're wandering now all in parts and pieces, swim lonely find your own way out [[CHORUS BIT AGAIN]]

Actually, I read what the meaning of this song was about. Amy said that she was on tour in Lisbon, and every night she would look at the stars. However, that night, she was in the city, and she couldn't see the stars, and she got really depressed. Obviously, it's made to be more dramatic, but that's why it was written.
