"What you do on our own time is just fine, my imagination's much worse, I just never wanna know ... " I think this part refers to her time after they broke up, maybe she was with someone else immediately and she still talked to him as a normal friend, but he can't take it, he doesn't want to know what she and her so called new boyfriend do ...

I think this song is about a guy that reaaly likes a girl, but she only sees him as a friend. "I sat outside my front window...this story's going somewhere: "He's well hung," and I am hanging up." - they are on the phone, and she is telling him how great this guy is, and he really doesn't want to know. "Well there's a song on the radio that says: "Let's get this party started." So let's get this party started." - him trying to be okay and act normally around her/try to take his mind of her new guy. "What you do on your own time's just fine. My imagination's much worse, I just never want to know." - he doesn't want to talk about what they are doing together, but instead he imagines them together doing much worse than they probably really are. "What meant the world had folded like legs and fingers holding onto what escapes me; what he has: a better kiss that never lasts." - her legs and feet holding onto what he doesn't have, a better kiss that never lasts. He is a loyal friend to her, but this boy is more attractive but doesn't care about her so much, could be what attracts her to him. "You said, between your smiles and regrets: "Don't say it's over." Dead and gone, dead and gone, yeah" - he has had enough and decides that he can't continue being friends with her anymore. "smiles and regrets", smiles is because he is loyal and she thinks he will always be there, and regrets, because she didn't value him enough, or maybe never realised he even liked her. basically, she doesn't want to lose him as a friend. "Calm before the storm set it off,(set it off) and the sun burnt out tonight. A reception less than warm set it off, and the sun burnt out to..." - set it off is him trying to get the nerve to tell her how he feels, and as a result of him doing so, their friendship 'burnt out'. reception less than warm goes back to her not appreciating him as a friend. "This is me standing in the arch of the door hating that look that's on your face that says there's another fool like me. There's one born every minute, there's one born every minute." - him changing his mind and deciding to be her friend again because he needs to be around her, and her saying 'i told you so'. "What meant the world imploded, inflated then demoted all my oxygen to product gas and suffocated my last chance." - suffocating his last chance at dignity/his last chance to be the guy that she's attracted to (the guy that's not too into her, the guy that never lasts).
