The song does seem to be about suicide, but what I find interesting is that there is no real reason behind it. Pete leaves us that, at least, to figure out on our own (although keeping with the theme of "Take This to Your Grave", it's probably because of that pesty girl that keeps ruining his life). I think the narrotor wants to kill himself becasue he's never truely experienced life ("I read about the afterlife, but I never really lived"). He's been going throught the motions("Though the motions I've been going through have failed"), but hasn't yet found whatever passion drives him to want to excell. He's sick of life just being "normal"("I'm going nowhere fast"), so he decides to end it while he can. He also points out in the begining that there's no point stopping him, that he's got his mind made up and that's that. ("It could be worse, I could be taking you there with me")

You people are fucking nuts, this song is about making it as a band. They play one show, they're so excited they're making it they "Can't sleep in the wake of Saturday" and "these open doors were open ended" because anything could happen. He can't wait until two more weeks, for another Saturday, another show.
The other parts of the song most likely refer to Pete's nervousness that he had about the band right before they hit it big.

What does "Pete and I attacked the laws of Astoria" mean then?

It's about regretting the way they've been living their life. He watched people take life for granted and let it pass them by and swore he would never do that himself, except he fianlly realizes he did do it, and now he is talking about all his regret of never really living life. That's what I gathered but I'm probably wrong.

The Ataris have a song calles "So Long, Astoria".
Fall Out Boy is excited bringing back that style of music.
'Cause the lyrics are "Pete and I attacked the lost Astoria with promise and percision and a mess of youthful innocence."
They're excited about all the possibilities they have with music.
This song is not about suicide.

For this song the music was actually written before the lyrics. Patrick wrote the music because he was graduating and felt like he hadn't done anything with his life so he went to pete to get some lyrics wrote. The line "pete and I" was actually pat and I but patrick doesn't like being called pat and pete hoped no one would notice if he put himself in his own song. Also some of the lines are actually co-written by patrick so ha!Get your facts straight posers

The Ataris song, "so long astoria" is actually in reference to the film "the goonies" so I don't think it has anything to do with this song

I think it's a mix of everyone's interpretations. It's about someone who's bored with normal life and is trying to hit it big but also nervous about if they'll fail. like when they say "I've never really lived more than an hour" they mean when they play they feel alive and so they're trying so hard to feel like that and do it for a job. It has nothing to do with suicide it's about taking a chance at doing what you have passion for.

I am confumbled, "So Long, Astoria" I now came out in 2003 around the same time fall out boy released "take this to your grave" I know that would not have giving them a lot of time to right the song... when I listened to the song the first time I knew that the Ataris had a song called "So Long, Astoria" but I don't think that they wrote it about the Ataris song.. There wouldn't have been enough time... So.... yeah I don't know, that is my opinion. If you can help me please!

The line "Pete and I" was actually "Pat and I" but Patrick doesn't like being called Pat and Pete hoped no one would notice if he put himself in his own song.
Also, it had to be changed to Pete, 'cause Patrick sings the song so it would sound weird if he was singing "Pat and I"

This song is about suicide. A boy wants to kill himself on a Saturday.
------------------
Sorry, I just find how you said that sentence. But yeah, I think that the song is about their shows and that they really haven't felt like they have done anything with there lives until this. Um I know nothing about the Austria thing but it says that they go against the laws of Austria so possibly that in their careers that they have done something illegal in Austria not illegal here. Just guessing. But most of the lyrics in their songs are like puns and idioms... So...yeah that's it.

The song was written by Patrick. It was a last minute addition to Take this to your grave
"two more weeks" was when he graduated
"astoria" is the town where The Goonies takes place
The song is more about Patrick's apprehension about fall out boy, "coasting all potential twords a wall, at 100 miles an hour"
It's simply about a confused little 18 year old boy being thrown into the spotlight.

THIS SONG IS NOT ABOUT SUICIDE!!!! I think this song is about wanting to make a change." I'm good to go and I'm going nowhere fast"means he is ready to make a change, but whatever he tried before didn't work. He decides to do something drastic two weeks from then on a saturday (2 more weeks, my foot is in the door, yeah, I can't sleep in the wake of saturday) and also having to mature yourself to make said change(promise and precision, no messed up youthful indescision.)
And also I want to say Patrick sounds awesome when he sings those high notes.

I agree. These songs are awesome, but the videos do go off on a little biit of a tangent. I'm sure there is some point, but who knows what it is. And for all of you who keep posting stuff about "ugh he wrote the song NO! HE wrote the song!"I thought Pete was the lyricist, but I do think Patrick co-writes sone of the songs. But does it really matter its still fantastic music. Who cares who wrote it? They're a BAND. They should ALL be given some credit.

Ok the videos about this:
Patrick is a cop tracking Pete, a murderer
Pete leaves a calling card at the scene of the crime, and Patrick's trying to interpret what they mean
But he can never catch Pete, at the end, he finally does meet up with Pete, but Pete kills him. However, suddenly Pete's wearing Patrick's jacket with the cards in it, and Pete falls dead. Pete and Patrick were the same person with split personality disorder, that's why Patrick can't find Pete, and that's why Pete dies in the end. This is also hinted at during the video when Patrick and Pete are driving, its the same car in different colors. Also, when Patrick bangs his hand, Pete is hurt. It's kind of like "Fight Club", if you've ever seen it.
As for the song itself, I think that it's about someone who's bored and anxious about something coming up on Saturday, but right now it seems like nothings happening. Could also be about hitting it big as a band and having fun, and disliking being bored in between shows.

I was watching a youtube video with Patrick and Pete explaining the meaning of Saturday. According to them...or better yet to Patrick..."he" not Pete wrote the song talking about his graduation. He was talking about how he and all of his classmates were going to be going on different roads. Patrick went on to say that the song as referred to Fall Out Boy's music in general and how as the band they are elevating and going on to new levels in their career and also how they were improving.
