I don't have the time to look through 120+ interpretations of this song to see if this has already been said, but here's my opinion… The boy in the song is totally obsessed with the girl and so he is now stalking her to get her attention. This is hinted at in the line "I'm just a notch in your bedpost". It plays with the idea that no matter where she is, he's somewhere near, and nearer than she thinks he is. Then there's the obvious "I'm watching you two from the closet" (also telling the listener that the girl is already with someone), and the "friction in your [her] jeans" can be interpreted two ways. There's the fact that he wants sexual contact with her, and there's also another case of him relating himself to an everyday/commonplace thing in someone's life. Obviously, friction in jeans and notches in bedposts can't watch people around them, but he can, and he's saying that he is or wants to be one of those things, it pretty much means that he is with this poor unwary girl wherever she goes.

i interpret "don't mind me I'm watching you two from the closet, wishing to be the friction in your jeans" as him always noticing her with her b/f everywhere and how he wishes he could be the guy... people are so perverted... not everything is sexual you little 13 year old horny boys!

I think that this song is about the guy being gay. He says many different things that show this. One thing that he says is that he is watching you to from the closet and he means that he did not come out of the closet yet. He also says that it is messed up how he is just dying to be him but he should want to be with her not him. He also says drop a heart, break a name and if he wasnt gay he would say the normal saying of drop a name, break a heart. He says that he wants to kill himself for being gay like the loaded god complex cock and pull it because he does not want to be gay. It says he's going down down swinging because he's gay and its gonna be a crazy time. The guy also says we're always sleeping in but we're sleeping for the wrong team, meaning that the guys should be sleeping with each other and not the girls. He says he has been dying to tell him (the other gay guy) everything he wants to hear ( that he likes him because there both gay) and that's just who I am this week, so he could be Bi because he likes the guy this week. That is what I really believe the hidden meassage is behind this song if you really think about it, so just think about it please!

This song is bout two people who have a sexual relations
The guy doesn't know the girl is with someone else
when he finds out he is jealous that he could be number 2 , thus the line " ill be your number one with a bullet"
Then, " A loaded God Complex"
God Complex is like narcicism, he thinks he above everyone, almost god like.
"Cock it and Pull it"
As w/ the bullet earlier, he's gonna kill the other guy

Has anyone here ever heard the lyrics to AC/DC's "Back in Black?" He makes a reference to being "number one with a bullet." So it meant something back in '85 when that was written, it must mean the same thing now. I don't know what though, any help on that?

I think it's about raping monkeys. This is how aids started, and pete is saying how people should use protection. "cock it and pull it" as a reference to ejaculation

Ok, everyone is going on about what Pete said in an interview and blahdy blahdy blah, but isn't the point of interpreting something so that you can use your own mind and independently extract what you may from it? The beauty of lyrics is that there is a lot of diversity in the way they may be interpreted so people should celebrate the independent thinking and creativity involved in this process and not criticise or try to belittle people for being "wrong".

jeez. a GOD COMPLEX is where you choose who lives who dies. not being in love with your mother. That would be an oedipus complex. He's killing himself and taking her down with him.

I think that they mean conflict when they are saying complex. Something complicated, so maybe he's is blaming god for whatever he's upset about, and saying I'm just going to end it. I seen a lot of blink 182 lyrics race through my head when I read "drop a heart, break a name". Everytime I look for you "Hearts are wasted, lives are broken." they jumble it up to make you think about it

This songs about a guy who's good friends with this girl he's really into. He keeps trying to get her attention as a guy she might like but she doesn't see him that way cause she has a different love interest.

I know it probably sounds like I'm repeating everyone, but its obvious this songs about a guy and a girl who only have a sexual relationship, but he begins to love her for all the right reasons, but she is in love with a different guy.

Ok, you people are seriously retarded, the song is about a boy, who has ANTLERS, and is in love with a girl, who's father has DEER FEET, and the father doesn't want the girl and boy dating because he doesn't want his grandchildren to be a deer. As far as the song goes, it's not about masturbation, not about doing anything for a girl, it's about fucking up and doing it over again.

Those who say this is a song about obsession is correct. When someone is obsessed with another person, they watch them from a distance, they fantasize about having sex with that person, they will do anything for that person even if it means killing themselves to prove it. They may have had a relationship with this person at one point, but the obesession gets stronger when that relationship ends.
The narrator obviously is a lovesick obsessed puppy who sees himself as nothing more than an object insignificant to this girl's eyes. Yet he claims that he can become the person that she wants him to be, or even greater.
In the first verse "Am I more than you bargained for yet" means Am I good enough for you yet?
"I've been dying to tell you anything you want to hear because that's just who I am this week" means I 'll do/say anything for you to love/accept me. The narrator doesn't know who he is and feels he can be one personality this week and another personality next week, just as long as he becomes the type of person that she will accept.
"Lie in the grass next to the mausoleam" means he is lying dead in his grave because she didn't love him back. It is not literal, it only means he would die for her. This was inserted at the beginning of the song even though it is an end result of an obsession gone wrong.
"I'm just a notch in your bedpost" means she used him for sex and has no feelings for him. "But you're just a line in a song" means he has stronger feelings for her but is downplaying that and saying he used her too. This shows how conflicted the narrator is with the fact that his love and obsession was not reciprocated by her.
"Drop a heart, break a name" again the reciprocated words depict how conflicted the narrator's heart is by this 'betrayal.' The literal meaning is she dropped the name of some other guy she's seeing to break his heart. When someone drops a name, they do it purposefully to get a reaction from another person.
"We've been sleeping in and sleeping for the wrong team" means they slept with each other and with other people. But those were the wrong people in the narrator's eyes, and that he believes they belong together.
"we're going down, down, in an earlier round, and Sugar we're going down swinging" means he accepts that this relationship is doomed from the start, but he will not go down without a fight. It's a cry of desperation when he realizes what he's fighting for is useless. It's possible that he pays homage to Sugar Ray Leonard in this line in reference to a boxing match.
"I'll be your number one with a bullet" I think there are parallel meanings here. It refers to the fact that he believes he can win her over and she will adore him. Yet the writer uses the analogy of a crazed fan of a #1 band to define that adoration.
"A loaded God complex cock it and pull it" refers to the GIRL having a God complex. A God complex is the belief that one can decide the fate of another's life. Doctors and surgeons are accused of having a God complex because in their line of work someone's life is in their hands day in and day out. So the narrator is saying "my life/destiny/fate/happiness is in her hands, she has the power to break my heart and kill me with her words and actions."
Awesome lyrics, though depressing. It really defines the desperation a person feels when something you love does not love you back.

I absolutely agree with the above poster. A God complex is when someone can decide whether a person deserves to live or die. The guy says she has a "loaded God complex cock it and pull it" means she can end his life or let him live but the decision solely lies in her hands. The guy's a tool. No offense.
