Ok so you guys keep getting parts of it wrong, I just got the CD yesterday(xmas) and it has lyrics in it ....it says
Last summer we took threes across the board
but by fall we were a cover story "now in stores"
Make us poster boys in your scene but we
are now making our acceptance speech
i found the safest place to cheat all of our mistakes
every DOT COMs refreshing for a journil update
so LOng live the car-crash hearts
cry on the couch all the poets come to life
fix me in 45
i take it as like some1 at some sort of therapist becuase a therapist has ou sit on a couch and you get like 45 mins
the beggining is like he is tellin his story....
later it says
I can take your problems away with a nod and a wave
of my hand because that's just the kind of boy that I am
the only thing I havnt done yetis die
and its me and my press my press one at the afterlife
...meaning its the therapist and he is sayin he's taking away the stress and how he is tired of his job and he calls in his next person to hear something new

This song I believe is about becoming famous and not wanting all the things in between such as selling out to make more more. They don't want to be poster boys and have false lives they want to continue to do music because they're passionate about it not wanting to make money for it.
I rather be poor and love what I do than rich and become resentful.

I always thought it was trees across the board, and not threes, like from under the cork tree? I don't know, it sounds silly now that I think of it, but that's what I thought.
I always thought the 45 thing had some sort of connection with vinyl records.

I agree with the top rated impression about most everything. except taht I doubt taht fix me in 45 has anything to do with the length of the albums. It has more to do with the fact that the kind of vinyl record including only one song per side was a 45 measured by the RPMs. So they're saying "and we're gonna do all this in one song"

i must say this song is GENIUS! probably my favorite song. and really a song that made me "rethink" every FOB song i ever heard.. before i heard them, but now i listen and i just am amazed every time i hear one of their songs! i love how they write their stuff! totally different.
since the interpretation of this song is simple, i want to point out some of my favorite parts of this song. and how genius or how hilarious they are.
1.)Make us poster boys for your scene
But we are not making our acceptance speech
(love it! cause everyone hates on them for being so "emo" and this line is saying "label as you want but we didnt say that")
2.)I can take your problems away
With a nod and a wave
of my hand cuz that's just the kind of boy
That I am
(haha... makes me giggle! now i dont know if this was supposed to be sarcasm or not but thats what i hear when i listen cause pete has said "I guess we`re just one of those bands that just polarizes people. Some people worship the ground we walk on, and some people say we`re ruining music and should just shut out mouths. If you want to keep either of those opinions, you should try not to engage us in a real conversation.")
3.)Crowds are won and lost and won again
But all our heats beat
For the diehards
(what FOB is all about! their diehard fanbase they will always have. no matter what the media throws at them!)
forever a FOB fan!

my thoughts:
this song is all about saying thanks to all the real fans, people who have been with them for a long time (as jay z says in the begining)
"long live the car crash hearts": in FUCT their song of all the gin joints mentions "we're making out inside CRASHED CARS". this line is a reference to that song . . . like, long live the people who listened to us back then
"all the poets come to life": also in FUCT their song ive got a dark ally and a bad idea that says you should shut your mouth [one of my favorite song titles] they say "poets are just kids who didnt make it". so once again references a different song back from one of their older cds. saying all the kids who didnt make it, come back to life.

Long live the car crash heart (their emo fans)
cry on the couch all the poets come to life (most artists come out of sadness including them)
fix me in 45 (transition sentence)

No one has said this, so maybe I'm crazy. But I always thought that since they're thanking their diehard fans "that held us down 'till everybody came around,"
then the line, "long live the car crash hearts," might refer to track one on "Take This to Your Grave," in which the writer wishes a car wreck on a girl who broke his heart. So the original fans, albeit a little later than fans of their original touring and "Evening Out With Your Girlfriend," could be considered kindred, having sung that song with the band live a million times during touring. Therefore, the band and the early fans are all car crash hearts.

I like all of your thoughts on "Last summer we took three's across the board" but let me suggest something from a musician's standpoint. Often, when records are selling well and tours dates are selling out, bands will "Take 3" meaning take 3 months off from everything to sort of recollect themselves. My thoughts are that they are saying "We took 3 months off last summer, but we were sold out by fall". (Just a thought). I totally agree with the 45 minutes therapy session idea, but I think the point is that fans often use FOB's music as a therapy session. PEACE
