Emily Lyrics

Smiles and her laughter
It's the only thing that I've been waiting for a time
Regardless of our distance and our hope.
'Cause we're swept up by pretty eyes and a letter for a time
...the only thing that I've been waiting for.

I hope it's...

Your all wrong. He wrote it about me. My name is Edward Mily (or E. Mily). I've waited until now to come out with this, because as Sonny left the band a long time ago and has since gone onto huge success with Skrillex, I feel at this time its not something that would affect his career in a non-encouraging way. See, Sonny and I were gay lovers and as this came to light in a time America wasnt going to be accepting of a gay couple in a band which spotlighted mostly toward adolescents, he cleverly used my name to form 'Emily'. We dared to speak our love through music then and now I dare to tell the world about it! Sonny, I miss you.

how could you dumb fucks say emily is dead. i know emily and she is very much alive. me and sonny used to be pretty close until he started touring as skrillex. i dont get see him much but we are friends. i was around when sonny and emily went out. i got a call from emily saying that sonny had cheated on her. so for you all that dont know what your talking about just shut up. sonny and emily are broken up now so stop arguing about it. i still talk to emily every now and again and she's doing alright and sonny is obvious doing alright himself so just stop talking about it.

Ok, i've mets sonny before backstage of a from first to last concert in 06 and i've also been back stage of a skrillex show so i've spoken to him before. i've asked him what emily was about in 06 and he didn't really say much about it but all that he really had to say was that he wrote it about his ex girlfriend Emily and he had cheated on her at warped tour and he later confessed to her about it. he wrote "Emily" basically as an apology (if you wanted to think about it that way) but he still loves her very much as sonny says "theres no one in the world like Emily" or "and never will i give up trying because your everything to me." sonny has also said that everyone has there own interpretation of the song. but the only thing that matters now is that Sonny and Emily are now friends and they have put all that behind them. and yes Sonny didnt write any of the music on dear diary except for "Emily" and "One Armed Boxer vs the Flying Guillotine."

I am juat going to say I really like this song. I don't really care what is about. It would be really cool to know the real truth about it, but we might never know. BTW, my name is Emily. (((:

I think they are all just good songwriters, being a songwriter myself, I have learned that a songwriter gets to a certain point in their songwriting, that they can create scenarios in their heads. So maybe some of you are right, maybe it is about sonny's girlfriend, but then agian maybe it is just a scenario they made up, which would mean they were good songwriters, because they have all of you worked up about it.
I am not saying any of you are wrong, I'm just saying that who really knows?

FFS. Read the extract from Sonny Moores blog you IDIOTS.
    you people drive me crazy.
that song in particular was written for Emily Gauthreaux and Jon Weisberg's girlfriend, also named emily.
Him and sonny wrote it TOGETHER.
sonny found long dstance relatinships hard and cheated on emily so they decided to end it.
    thats it.
if there was a dead emily, or a pregnant emily, this song wasnt written about them.
its possible there was another girl like that, but THIS song was written for Emily G and Jons girlfriend also named emily.

Its about more than the singer just missing Emily. She commited suicide and left him behind (Thunderstorms will never stop me)

Ok well I don't know whether it was written by Sonny or Matt, but I don't care. I'm just gonna say what I think it's about.
To me, it sounds like it's about a long distance relationship. As he sung in the song, "he will never give up trying cause you're everything to me."
And when he sings, "Thunder storms could never stop me." It sounds like he would try visiting her no matter how horrible the weather was.
Even when he says "days seem like years in this month of December." It sounds like he is saying how slow life goes by when he doesn't see her.
And the most obvious line, "Regardless of our distance...and our hope grows greater."
"I hope it's something worth the waiting." Sounds like they don't always get to see each other very often.
"Because there's no one in the world like Emily," he was willing to keep trying to have a long distance relationship with her.

    FFTL's old singer left the band during the record, so the band found Sonny through MySpace and asked him to play guitar. Matt Good was gonna be the lead singer, but Sonny had singing parts in the song "Featuring Some Of Your Favorite Words", and when the rest of the band heard him singing it they decided he should be lead vocals, therefore Matt played guitar and sang backup vocals. Sonny wrote the songs "Emily" (proof: he sings it solo now and fftl doesn't sing it at all) and "The One Armed Boxer Vs. The Flying Guillotine" (proof: last lines of the song are;
"How do I address a letter to my generation?
'SONNY', she said, 'save yourself the postage'
How do I address a letter to my generation?
'SONNY', she said, 'sing it in person'

Now that that's all cleared up, I'm not sure exactly about specifics but I THINK (emphasis on the think) that Sonny wrote "Emily" for a girlfriend he was dating long distance. They broke up, but it is NOT a song of the past, he has sung it since then but changed the lyrics to "Hillary" (I think it's his new girlfriend) instead of "Emily".

There, that's my thoughts/opinions, you don't have to agree with them, I'm just saying.

Basically, Matt Good wrote this song. He wrote all of the songs on Dear Diary in two weeks. Halfway through production, Sonny joined the band as lead guitarist and Matt was lead singer. When they were doing "Featuring Some of Your Favorite Words," they realized how amazing Sonny's vocals were, so they switched, Matt to lead guitar, Sonny to lead vocals. Sonny was 15 when they were recording, so I don't see how he could've been 16 when he wrote the song. Anyway, enough with the history of From First to Last that apparently 1 or 2 of you know, and on with the meaning of the song. This information is in multiple bio's of them all over the internet.

Regardless of what was happening in this person's life, he was definitely in a long distance relationship, and madly in love with the person, probably having been together a while, and having just become so distant. Things are still happy because neither of them are doubting their relationship yet, and they're waiting to see each other again.
Basically, it's the cliche, "We'll make it no matter what," that always inevitably ends.

Yes, it is true that Sonny didn't do any work with any of the songs, EXCEPT for Emily. Emily was a song that Sonny originally wrote when he was 16 years old. He wrote the music and the lyrics. The proof that any of you need would be that if you go to see FFTL live now, they don't play Emily, but Sonny sings it (usually the toyshop remix) live at solo shows. Emily is the only song that Sonny wrote for Dear Diary.

Funny thing about the song: Since Sonny was 16 when he wrote it, he wasn't good with grammar and spelling, and made up the word coldens. If you hear him play it live he says "the winter makes me cold" instead of "coldens me."

BASICS, MATT wrote the lyrics, NOT SONNY. Nothing to do with sonny whatsoever.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
