I don't know if I am right but I think that this song is talking about maybe someone leaving him,
"Note to self: I miss you terribly.
This is what... we call a tragedy.
Come back to me, come back to me, to me.
Note to self: I miss you terribly.
This is what... we call a tragedy.
Come back to me, back to me, to me.
out maybe someone leaving him"
Or maybe things that are going on in his mind (video),
"I can feel my mind, wandering again.
Into where I don't know, and will I ever get home?
Time starts moving, faster than I can.
And I'm sick of this scene,
I need to break the routine."

This song is about being lost within your self and looking for what your life will turn into but not knowing whats ahead.. How the choices you make affect your life.

this song could be about someone leaving him but I don't think it is. casuse look at where he says "I can feel my mind wandering again. Into where I don't know and will I ever get home?" and the whole "note to self I miss you terribly this is what we call a tragedy come back to me come back to me (to me)," makes me think he is talkin to himself and it's like he has lost who he was before(or his mind). Like being famous is making him turn into someone he doesn't even recognize. That also goes with the begining of the song where he says"two roads split off from here and my life is running in opposite directions exaggerating the barrier between who I am and who I want to be" he is tellin you that his life could turn into two different things and it is tearin him apart to choose and its makin him loose his mind. Well that's just my way of seein the song it's probably wrong though.

This song is about having lost yourself, and wanting to be the person you were before. "Note to self, I miss you terribly, this is what we call a tragedy, come back to me." He's saying that he misses who he used to be.

I Think that this means that you've changed and you want to be yourself again 'Note to self: I miss you terribly. This is what we call a tragedie, Come back to me' And that your life is wondering off in too many different directions. 'My life goes running in opposite directions'

I think that this song is about him beeing the person that every one elts wants him to be and changing him self for them. He's getting so cought up in who he is pretending to be and forgetting who he really is and trying to remember. He seems to be so far from who he used to be and his mind is wondering into the person every one expects him to be

I think this song is about being in the entertainment bussiness and being called out on every little thing you do and having to change who you are just to fit in with want every one else wants and expects.

He is losing someone....His self. Hence the NOTE TO SELF. I think he misses who he was before the stardum hit. He just wants to be who he once was.

I think that this song is a little deeper than that. I was in a position and this song keept popping into my head.i think that sonny is talking about how he is caught between two choices hence "two roads split off from hear and my life goes running in opposite directions" I think he wants to go both ways but he knows he cant. also I think this song is about betrayl. I think that "exaggerating the barrier between who I am and who I want to be" means that he wants to be one thing but there is smonthing holding him down and he can't change, and if he does change, he changes too late. "note to self I miss you teriably, this is what we call a tragedy come back to me back to me (to me)" I think this could mean that one he is talking to himself and how he wants to change or two that he misses someone that left because he made the wrongd choice, going back to the openinging lyrics.

*applause* I agree with everyone who said this song was about losing yourself or wanting to be the person you used to be. Whoever thinks it to do with someone else like a girlfriend really wasn't listening- how many times do they mention me,I?

meh.
It's simple. This song is about him not knowing who he is. and wanting two differnt things. "and my life goes running in opposite directions, exhadurating who I am and who I want to be." it means that he isn't what he wants to be, and he doesn't know what to do about it.well, that's what it means to me.

I know everyone is saying that it isn't about someone leaving him but I think that its a mix of both that when someone left him he wanted to change himself to who he wants to be or who that person wanted him to be but in the end he gets lost in trying t o find himself and relises that he had lost a part of himself in doing this so I guess the note to self part means both he misses the person but since its to himself he's wondering if it was worth changing himself for

This song is not about Sonny Moore missing a girlfriend, dumbass. It's about him saying that he doesn't know who he is anymore after he got famous. He misses who he used to be.

...Sonny didn't even write the song. Therefore it's not about him. Jeez.

I find it funny how everyone thinks that all of these songs have something to do with sonny moore as a person..
When he had basically nothing to do with the writing process of dear diary.

yeah, I tottaly aggre that the song is about someone being who he isnt. and gettin confused on who he really is and who people want him to be. That makes a lot of sence, because look at the first couple of lines..."tworoads... Split off from here,
and my life goes running in opposite directions.
Exaggerating the barrier between who I am, and who I want to be". now that makes sense to me.

I went to a from first to last concert and sonny was talking about the song before they played it. He was basically saying that the song is about feeling like your lost and finding yourself.being who you want to be, not who other people tell you to be.very inspiring!
