In this song I see that the guy really screwed up a relationship with someone. Not necessarily a love, but that's what I'll go with. He messed up and the other person left. Now he's chillin out near the airport where the other person is leaving, and he's watching the airplanes go by. All the while figuring out which one she/hes on and thinking about his major screw up.

What Gary Allen (in my opinion) is trying to portray is how it feels to break up with someone you really love and how hard of a time he is having to try and get over her when it seems she already gotten over him. I don't think that there is literally an airplane in his song. The airplane that the woman is on kind of symbolizes that she is gone out of his life and it seems that in this song the airplane has no chance of coming back. So as he sits outside "watching airplanes" he is thinking about her and how she got over him. He thinks about how he wants to get her back but knows that there is nothing he can do to bring her back. He knows that he should be over her by now but he just can't do it.
This is a great song and its kinda heavy when you think about it.
