Green Day: King For A Day Meaning

King For A Day Lyrics

Started at the age of 4.
My mother went to the grocery store.
Went sneaking through her bedroom door to find something in a size 4.

Sugar and spice and everything nice wasn't made for only girls.
GI Joe in panty hose is making room for the...

I am not sure why no one has interperted this song yet because it's pretty much the best song ever. King for a day is about a boy who likes to wear girl clothes basically.

Most people have this right. Its about cross-dressing and having fun doing it.

"King for a day, princess by dawn"

It's about a crossdresser (and, not trying to be mean or anything, but I'm 13 and I know to use the word 'crossdresser'. You guys just sound stupid saying 'a guy who dresses like a girl').

The song is about cross-dressing. (Yeah, thats the educated way to say a guy who dresses like a girl) 'Started at the age of four' doesn't mean he started cross-dressing then, just that he thought his mom had better (so to say) clothes then his father. 'Daddy threw me in therapy' just tells about how he had troubles at home since the father was probably a homophobe. 'Who put the drag in the drag queen' just emphisizes how people are always making it hard for the narrator.

This is by far my favorite song like ever, and this is just how *I* saw it.

This song is obviously about crossdressing. It is NOT about being gay. Being gay and crossdressing are two completely different things, and it's pretty homophobic to assume otherwise.

Um, I'm not saying you guys are wrong, I'm just saying that the song doesn't say it happened at the age of four, it says it started at the age of four. Which means that the person in the song continues to do it after that. I'm not saying its a true story or anything.

K, "Started at the age of 4" Meaning he did this when he was four. (I'm not saying its a real story). And then when his father walks in the room. He takes him to therapy. He isn't gay HE'S 4 YOU DON'T MAKE THE DECISION OF BEING GAY, STRAIGHT, OR BI TILL LATER IN YOUR LIFE. And "wait till the guys get a load of me" obviously meant the kid thought that wearing a thong was cool, yet he didn't know what he was doing.

No no no. It was written by Tre Cool, and its not a true story, but it's about him being a little boy [probly about 4 or 5] and he goes into his moms room and finds a leather thong and thinks that it is kings clothing, so he wears it thinking that his friends will be impressed [wait till all the guys get a load of me]

Yeah, it was probably written when they were stoned, what do you expect, it made sense to them! It's a fun song anyways

I think when everything falls apart at the end is showing he failed to make people understand him and his habits.

I wonder if he's kind of making a sick joke when he says
"all the guys get a 'load' of me." I could be just really gross but...idk.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

It's about living life as a normal guy during the day and dressing up as a girl in the evenings.

This song is a good one, but it's about a gay dude pretty much. He wears girl clothes and gets put in therapy...

It is a gay boy that likes to act as a girl and that would feel like a "king for a day" if others acepted his opinion and thoughts

The first guy was right. King for a day is about a boy who likes to dress up as a girl, or a relaese of Billie joe's own bisexuality.
