This song is about feling alone ("Walking Alone"), and feeling misplaced. The first line sums it up, "come together like a foot in a shoe, only this time i think i stuck my foot in my mouth." A foot in a shoe should fit nicely, but he puts his fot in his mouth not the shoe as he ends up in the wrong position again. Billie Joe also discusses relationships with people and how you have to have respect to be respected and not left "waklking alone". "Sometimes I need to apologize. Sometimes I need to admit that I ain't right." As he describes how a bad attitude gets you nowhere.
