Yes, Hawthorne Heights is from Ohio. But the song is about more than that. I think it's about a love interest, to be honest. "I can't make it on my own" means he needs a certain somebody, and "because my heart is in Ohio" means that person he loves lives in Ohio. Yes, this could include family, but the next part of the song is passionately violent, so it seems to speak more of a love story. "It's hard to feel like I don't care at all" is because he is trying to deny he needs this person, but he does. "So cut my wrists and black my eyes" means not a whole lot on it's own... but "Because you kill me, you know you do you kill me well, you like it too and I can tell" shows this person has either inflicted intense emotional damage on him, or it kills him that he likes this person, or perhaps they just have a rather violent love life. It may speak of a highly passionate, somewhat violent love/hate style of relationship. So while he keeps saying he doesn't need this person anymore, or it's not the controlling factor in his life, his heart screams otherwise. While he keeps saying he can't stand this person or they don't matter, he keeps coming back for more, because he needs them in his life.

Hawthorne Heights is from Ohio, and this song is about missing their friends and families while they are are the road. The references to wheels rolling is just about their tour bus driving them around. The first line "Hey there, I know it's hard to feel like I don't care at all" and the rest of the first verse are about the guilt of abandoning their loved ones, and it serves to assure them that they really do care.

The first part of the chorus is simple. "I can't make it on my own because my heart is in Ohio" is just saying that they hate being alone and wish that they were back in Ohio with their loved ones. The second part is much more confusing because it is violent. "So cut my wrists and black my eyes. So I can fall asleep tonight, or die. Because you kill me. You know you do, you kill me well. You like it too, and I can tell. You never stop until my final breath is gone." I think that they just dramatize it to make a better song. The first two lines are just saying that they need to forget about the people they've left behind in order to survive away from them and to go to sleep without feeling terrible about leaving. It is not a person that is killing them, but rather their guilt.

Just to make this a bit clearer, the "cut my wrists and black my eyes" line is used in a figurative meaning, like they can't live without that special someone.

The part "spare me just three last words, I love you is all she heard, ill wait for you but I can't wait forver" I think is ment to represent a special girl and how the boys (Hawthorne Heights) are always on tour and the girl is saying that she will wait but not forever.... and with that the bit "I can't make it on my own, 'cause my heart is in Ohio." I think that it actually means that they left behind there heart aka that girl in their home town in Ohio.

"Hey there, I know it's hard to feel like I don't care at all"
I interpreted this as if he was beginning to write a letter to a girl and he's trying to say that he does care about her and she shouldn't feel otherwise.

"Where you are and how you feel. With these lights off as these wheels keep rolling on and on.
Slow things down or speed them up. Not enough or way too much. How are you when I'm gone?"
I interpreted this as if he was asking where she is and how she feels and was trying to explain how he was on the road.

"and I can't make it on my own. Because my heart is in Ohio. So cut my wrists and black my eyes.
So I can fall asleep tonight, or die. Because you kill me.
You know you do, you kill me well. You like it too, and I can tell. You never stop until my final breath is gone."
This is the chorus and it seems to me that he's telling her he's not strong enough with out her ( he feels empty and alone ) and that his heart is in Ohio ( he left a part of him in Ohio -her- ) He also sings so cut my wrists and black my eyes ..meaning he wants her to get all her rage out at him for leaving.. So he can get to sleep without thinking of her. It's also explaining that she drags these things out.

"Spare me just three last words. "I love you" is all she heard.I'll wait for you, but I can't wait forever."
The girl feels like giving up on him. She's explaining that she won't just wait forever for him to come back.

I don't know if it's about a love/hate relationship like the 2nd interpreter said. I think it's more like the narrator loves this girl so much and can't live without her, and would rather die than live without her. He feels guilty that he leaves and wants her to love him back. The girl, on the other hand, is tired of waiting and will only wait so long (I'll wait for you. But I won't wait forever.) The band has said many times that they are against suicide. The *cut my wrists and black my eyes* line is in a figurative sense. He is afraid he'll lose her, but he doesn't know what to do about it. He'd rather die than lose her. Tell me what you think- crossfadebomber@adelphia.net

Well it's about the members of the band all at the same time getting in a fight with all there girlfriends while recording the silence in black in white and it's their girlfriends that live in Ohioh. Te line "so cut my wrist and black my eyes are a figure of speech". and if you don't believe me, it's all in the cd booklet you get with the cd.

Its seriously not rocket science. It says so right in the cover of their first cd, this song is exactly how it sounds, they wrote it because they were traveling so much and working so hard on getting their cd out and they missed their g/f's because their g/f's were in ohio while hawthorne heights was not.... "Hey there I know its hard to feel like I don't care at all" its obviously hard to keep in touch with their g/f's and I'm sure their g/f's felt like they didn't care enough to keep in touch more, so there you have it, they wrote it because they missed their g/f's...plain and simple

Yes, I think this song is about how the guys miss their girlfriends that are still in ohio. And how their girlfriends are saying they won't wait forever for them, pretty much.

yea uhhh.. you gotta remember that bands have to write a lot of songs and not every single word has to have significant meaning to the song, sometimes they just have parts of the song that fill gaps or make it sound better and shit.. also they will say things that correspond with the genre or general theme of their music, like 'cut my wrists and black me eyes' is related to the whole new "emocore" genre.. This is obviously debatable.

Who says your emo if you like emo songs you mo fo I like this band and many other emo bands too so you can go talk about bitches and hoes and all of your bling bling. well if you like rap or w/e go suck it HH rules so does FOB and boys like girls etc... and to this person who said "Then you could go home cry to your rich home suburban mommies" that is just so fuckin un true ... where do you get it that emos are rich... most of the rich kids are little stuck up bastards who have great lives and get what ever they want.

They tell you what the song means, in their cd.
Just read the little booklet thingy!
So you people don't have to hurt your brains trying to figure out what the song means.
Basically like most people said already the song is about them missing their loved ones that are in ohio.
Basically they're home sick.

"Cut my wrist and black my eyes"
Part has nothing to do with the sterotype "emo"
It's just a figure of speech.

Why does everything have to turn into a debate over emos? Emo is sooo overrated! I listen to this kinda music but I am not emo. And anyway Emo is a type of music genre, it's inaccurate to use it as a derogatory term for people. Not all "emo kids" cut or think of suicide. I used to have a suicidal teacher but no one called her emo! Geez!

Anyway, this song is obviously about the guys missing their gfs while on the road and stuff. The song kinda explains itself.

God doesn't anyone look in the CD case? It has the meaning for all their songs...instead of making stuff up, why not just take a look?

Not all emo's have perfect lives and complain about everything. maybe they r just saying fuck society today fuck designer labels fuck being blonde and popular.

yes to me this song is about someone who love someone in ohio but the person in ohio is hurting them unintentionally and causing them to suffer or "cut their wrists"

Yeah.....whoever that was that says this song sucks and so do emos....first off this isn't MCR. It's Hawthorne Heights. Second, there's nothing wrong with being emo man. They don't cut themselves.

I read on Wikipedia that all the guys were fighting with their girlfriends while on tour and this song was because they still loved their girlfriends. To the fagots who hate emos, DON'T label people who like HH, and I do like slipknot and HH YOU CAN LIKE BOTH so YOU go hang yourselves!

This song, to me, is about how if you miss someone so much and love them so much you feel guilty about leaving them so, in this case the people turn to cutting. This is probly no where near the real point but this is what I think so yea. Because that's why I cut is from guilt and various other things. If you want to e-mail me your input on my point of view my myspace is myspace.com/i_cant_here_you
Hope this helped.... lol

Why does every single song have to be turned into an "emo" song? Emo's just a genre- it's just about being yourself. And if everyones getting so worked up about it then youre obviously not calling yourselves unique because that's what emo really is about'
