This is from my understaing about growing up being told how to live, what to do, when to go to bed etc and realising that when you become an adult none of it matters at all. In the song he is so dismayed by this discovery that he finds himself slipping away from everyone else and pretty much his own life. It obviously goes a little deeper and more detailed but that is the core of it. Growing up being moulded and realising it meant shit...
