"Already Gone" is about loving someone but having to let them go. This couple has tried to save their relationship, but no matter what they do, it doesn't work out. They care and have respect for each other but can't be together for a reason that is never clarified in the song. The narrator knows that being together is only hurting them both and to save herself and her partner from pain, she cuts off the relationship.

With that in mind, the lyrics should pretty much explain themselves.
