Lady Gaga: Born This Way Meaning

Born This Way Lyrics

It doesn't matter if you love him, or capital H-I-M
Just put your paws up
'Cause you were born this way, baby

My mama told me when I was young
We're all born superstars
She rolled my hair, put my lipstick on
In the glass of her...

Wow...some of you are interpreting this wayy wrong. the beginning, which says "it doesn't matter if you love him or capital Him" is probably talking about gays by saying it doesn't matter if you love some guy or God. i always thought that was obvious but maybe not...it's nothing satanic.
The rest of the song is about being comfortable with who you are and embracing what kind of person you were born as.

she says "CAPITAL H- i m ... not "capital H- capital I capital M" capital Him= God... capital HIM= Satan.. you think she didn't do this to freak people out?? she's lady friggen gaga. she really doesn't care what people think because she loves herself and that's what Born This Way is about... loving yourself :)

Have you heard what she talks on the beginning of the song???
Are you aware of what she sings about?
She does not sing about gays or lesbians ... it's just a mask ...
Well listen beginning of the song, I meant on the beginning of the video (official).....

The video's theme is that of creation, both good and bad, yin and yang, with birth signifying both perfection and flaws, yielding to the "grand ultimate," that is neither good nor bad.

God, as He (or HIM always capitalized), make no mistakes, creates perfection, thus we are "born perfect," regardless of our imperfections which includes predispositions for sexuality (a core need, and irrelevant because she covers all of these "No matter gay, straight or bi lesbian, transgendered life"), disabilities (referenced in the song, etc.

Now, perfection over time can be corrupted by ideas, which can lead to violence (hence the evil creator shooting a machine gun). Since it is a creation story, through a "multiverse," she is taking a literal view of physical reality and emphasizing the "universe within," and the need to "love yourself." The mythologic underpinnings are hindu (note: orient and outcast, as well as creation myth symbolism).

There is also a recognition of time and corruption, with child being both the literal "Lady Gaga," as a child and as an adult, reminding all of us of the words our mothers speak to us as children.

This is not as simple as "Firecracker," and suggestive of a much richer completion of ideas, combined with the mood of expression and a clear "Maddona," influence.

    HIM
    (His Infernal Majesty???)
What are you talking about? Her "HIM" refers to God.
It was pretty obvious! look at her chorus...

I totally disagree with the people that say gay lesbian etc is a choice I know for a fact you cannot help who you love and j you have never been in that situation doesn't give you any right to say that you know people choose to be that way I have had these feelings as far back ad I can remember so get your facts straight before you comment on them and I do feel that's what the song is about because of it being so hard to live in a society that has so much hatred against gays lesbian etc......

There is no straight, bi, or gay. I think Gaga knows that. Those are labels our Western society has slapped on the full spectrum of desire. In a way, we are all bi, some leaning more toward "straight", some more toward "gay", some in the middle. Someday this will not be an issue, in terms of human civilization it is a fad, and will be seen as restrictive. Calling yourself gay or straight also leads to self hatred and prejudice, because anything deviating from the "norm" within those bounds is seen as wrong. It causes further division between all of us. I saw the song and video maybe different than others.

This new "race" that is birthed from the "good Gaga", did anyone notice that the "children" are an androgynous clone of her, without sexuality, or clear orientation? Wishful thinking for everyone to be the same, without things we fight about. Is it really a good idea to take away what makes us different. The "bad Gaga", and her liberated "evil" kin rather than try to all be the same, seem to enjoy being different, different races, gender, and sexuality...but are able to blend together and get along, strange enough. So, I think more than anything she is urging others to be complete individuals, not to feel the need to be like anyone else, even within society's norms. To me the song is beyond being a song about race, orientation, or disability, it urges others to transcend that and turn everything on its head. Reexamine all our beliefs, and see how many lead to prejudice and how we view ourselves and others.

Whoever came up with this capital HIM business is speaking crap (pardon the french), she obviously means capital H lowercase i m. Somehow 3rd graders understand how to spell when told to spell capitol (insert whatever word here). They don't need to be told when to lowercase, its a silent understanding.

She is just telling you to love yourself for who you are, whatever race or sexuality.

Whoever was the dumbass to say we are not born the way we are is an idiot. Ppl are born gay straight and bi. Yes you choose to act upon your sexuality but you can pretend to be straight and be miserable all your life but the fact is if you are attracted to the same sex you are gay. Its not a choice you just can act upon it but you can change your feelings.

But as far as the lyrics go I think she is saying it doesn't matter who you are or what you believe because everyone is born to be that way. The whole "it doesn't matter if you love Him or capital H-I-M" I believe refers to saying it doesn't matter if you love God or Satan. Which again shows her reaching out to every kind of person. Its is just a self love song

Maybe her reference to HIM is about not satan but the other non Christian Gods that are like satan to the rest of us...like allah or buddha. But above all of that perhaps ....just perhaps..the meaning is nothing at all ....it's art..and art is subject to individual interpretation...maybe all of her songs and videos are nothing more than to get the listener to think or...gee maybe just dance and have fun is the point...

My belief on the words "it doesn't matter if you love him or capital H-I-M" means that it doesn't matter what god you believe in, its as if she is pointing to two different people :)

I believe its about sin.. and she's basically saying homosexuality isn't a sin when it obviously is...also she mentions HIM which we all know wat that means... she also has a triangle at the end of the video...which is a masonic symbol

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

Be who you are, you're amazing and god made you that way. Also, there cant be anything good without someone who will do evil acts to achieve it. ("being gay is a choice" says the people who aren't gay so they dont know)

I think its for lgbt ;) aka gay lesbians transgender everything basically and it's defending gay people because they are very often discouraged by society even though they are just regular people I'm gay and proud ^_^

The song is pretty easy to interpret, but the video on the other hand... It kinda scared me XD
So at the beginning, she rambles about the birth of something, but right before the music starts is what freaked me out. "But how can I protect something so perfect without evil," Meh, something along those lines. I think she means giving in to the evil, HIM and simultaneously giving up him, God, for herself.
Also, in bad romance, she gives herself up as a slave to what I interpreted as Satan to get what she needed: fame. In born this way, she gave up good for evil to protect the "perfection" mentioned earlier. The "born this way" part was probably stating that she was born to protect this perfection, or fame.

Of course, she could just be TRYING to get us to trip out. Worked with me. Shoot, I'm tripping MYSELF out now xD

iLove lady gaga believe me but i dont like the fact that she believes people were born the way we are, you are not born gay lesbian or bi, you choose to follow that route. lady gaga doesnt believe in god she said so herself."it doesnt matter if you love him or CAPITAL HIM"? ok whats that about is him supposed to be God and H-I-M supposed to be the devil. ever since she released alejandro her videos have seemed very evil. if you notice the video alejandro has an upside down cross and born this way shes like dressed up very evil-ish and very satanic like. i dont know what shes trying to say through her messages but its just so wierd that all of a sudden shes doing this. is she mad at god? yes god made us perfectly, we are beautiful in our way, god makes no mistakes, respect your youth, there is nothing wrong with loving who you are, give yourself prudence and love your friends, dont live in regret YES!!! all those things are true and righteous....but the fact that shes trying to say that we are born this way yes we are born beautiful, different colors and ethnicities but we are not bron gay, transgender, bi, lesbian those are decisions. i love lady gaga i own every single record demo EVERYTHING! i love her but this record has me very dissapointed. im sorry please dont hate me.
