I honestly do not think it's about drug use... as someone said, James loves his cars and anything that moves fast that has wheels and a motor. I think it's about the adrenaline for going fast which James talks a bit about on the "some kind of monster" dvd he states "I love going fast." So yeah, I think it's about cars... I don't know about the piling up crash bit?? Anywho, I think everyone's opinion is good but yer... koolies

My interpretation is similar to one above that talks about going fast, speed, and whatnot. I don't think the song is necessarily about speed as much as it is about the rush for fire and energy and adrenaline.

This song could be about drug use, especially alcoholism, a problem for James who wrote this song.
But I think, it's about the thrill of fast driving and street racing, because it's about James's love of cars and fast driving. and the fact that his love of cars became a substitute for his love of drugs and alcohol.

How the hell you can be so brutally stupid? What DRUGS? What ALCOHOLISM?... James is obviously like others said inspired with cars and in this song with a fuel too, so he put himself in this song like he is an engine and putting in him a human feelings to describe us how engine is alive, like a human too, which is thirsty for fuel

This song is about cars and motorcycles, "Burn your face on the chrome" "Quench my thirst with gasoline"
To say anything else is asinine, Master of Puppets is about drugs, THIS is about cars. James has stated so himself.

James and the rest of the band love their cars and going fast. It also is like a biography of the band how they lived life on the edge and when in the song a junkie dies I think it's for remembrance of Cliff Burton R.I.P. Sept 27 1986

I think I read somewhere that this song is about going fast in cars. He wrote about cars because while he was struggling with alcohol, he took an interest in cars to occupy himself.

Its something in between
he talks about cars in a way that is similar to drugs
"Burn your face on the chrome" it could mean the mirrors used in drugs and the chrome in cars
he is talking about his transformation from drugs to cars
JAMES ROCKS

It could be drugs or cars but he desires something... The meaning of a song usally lies in the chorus but I personally think its drugs.
"Anthor Junkie learns to fat"
"Fuel as I burn
Burning hard loose and clean
churning my direction
quench my thrist for gasoline"
