First of all let me start off by saying "I think". I believe all of the interpretations should start with that because only the song writer him/herself knows for sure what the song is about. I think this song is about someone debating suicide. On one hand he thinks that there is no reason to go on. On the other hand he begins to think that maybe he is just telling himself it's bad when it really isn't. Hence the "talking shit about a pretty sunset". Towards the end it sounds like he has made up his mind but still is really unsure of his choice. "Blanketing opinions that I'll probably regret soon". "I've changed my mind so much I can't even trust it". I think this shows that he really is unsure of himself.

This is one of my absolute favorite songs and I think the main underlying meaning is, "you choose your attitude". I believe the noose refers to a binding belief, you cannot trust yourself when you look at things subjectivly. "Looking kind of anxious in your cross armed stance like a bad tempered prom queen at a homecoming dance" She isn't the queen of the homecoming dance but she should still be happy she is the prom queen. I think he is referring to how we all want more than we will ever get. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't be happy with what we have, if for no other reason than simply because we change our plans and minds all the time. "And I’m trying to understand myself and pinpoint where I am by the time I get things figured out I’ve change the whole damn plan"
A pretty sunset can be bullshit depending on the context we choose to see it in. We however may not feel that way forever. "Blanketing opinions that I’ll probably reget soon I’ve changed my mind so much I can't even trust it

I think it's a song of struggle, conflict....
It's about a person, getting himself in situations that he regrets...
"tied myself to tight"
so he changes, constantly, "change my mind so much I can't even trust it, my mind's changed me so much I can't even trust myself"...
the talking shit part is beautiful!
"blanket and opinions that I'll probably regret soon"
he's in a situation, that he impulsed his way into, and he has an opinion on the situation, but he knows that he'll have another opinion another time...
it's a song of opinions, situations, himself, all these constantly changing, conflicting, regretting, etc. etc.

and it's beautifully done, absolutely the apex of their mellow work.

Humans are never ever satisfied and this song is about the struggle in trying to figure out why.
