Knowing how Gerard tends to go with the lyrics, using the whole story concept, and his influence from other stories it wouldn't suprise me if there was an intended Bonnie and Clyde refrence.
"We could take to the highway with this trunk of amunition to"
and as for "I'd end my days with you in a hail of bullets" this can be taken to mean a suicide pact, I see it myself as 'whatever happens to you, I'm going to be right beside you'
My absolute favourite line in the song is "I'm trying
To let you know just how much you mean to me
And after all the things we put each other through" he's telling her things like "Id end my days with you in a hail of bullets" to try and tell her just how much she means to him, (which can seem like an impossible task at the best of times) and how whatever they go through, whatever they may do to hurt each other.
"I'll let you know just how much you mean to me, as snow falls on desert sky" no matter how hard it seems he's going to let her know how much she means to him.
and as it goes on the general theme (as I see it) tends to be, 'as we die we'll be right beside each other, holding hands'
thats just how I see it, and no matter how it gets interprated I think it's a beautiful song, and it's my favourite one

I think the song is about two couples who are running away from something. They are both driving down a long endless road, and they run out of gass and start walking. It becomes night time (i heard that night time in the desert is very cold) They get cold and decide to try to warm themselves by drinking liqour. The girl (could be guy, but i think its girl) dies from the cold. The guy then proves his love for her by shooting himeself in the head. and they both lay next to eachother dead, in a pool of blood.
