Famous Last Words Lyrics

Now I know
That I can't make you stay
But where's your heart
But where's your heart
But where's your

And I know
There's nothing I can say
To change that part
To change that part
To change

So many
Bright lights they cast a...

Gerard talked about this song in an interview and said it is about Mikeys 'breakdown' and when he wanted to leave the band during the recording of the record. It does fit in with the concept of the album so I think it can be looked at from both p.o.v's.

To me it's about depression the lines 'well its hard understanding I'm incomplete' and 'i am not afraid to keep on living....' speak to me about a persons struggle with feeling 'broken' but finding the strength to carry on with life, finally being 'awake and unafraid'.

I heard it was about splitting from his gf, but then again I'm not too sure, I wasnt aware that Mikey was about to leave the band and all of that, but id like to think the song is about hope.....i got the part

I See You Lying Next To Me, With Words I Thought I'd Never Speak, Awake and Unafraid, Asleep Or Dead....

tattooed on my wrist, I love that song, that part and MCR

In this one, Gerard and the band talk about losing someone, possibly a girlfriend. But not to death. She simply left and now he's telling her that he's changed but doesn't want her back. "I am not afraid to keep on living/ I am not afraid to walk this world alone!" The first verse mainly revolves around the girl leaving. Like in an arguement or something. "But where's your heart?" He also says that he can't do anything to change what he, or possibly she, has done to ruin this relationship. The bridge (So many bright lights that cast a shadow..." talks about some type of realm he has reach that is full of depression and how her leaving as paralyzed him. The second verse continues the description of the other realm and Gerard begging for her to help him get out and how he is now incomplete. The second bridge is my favorite. "I see you lying next to me/ With words I thought I'd never speak/ Awake and unafraid/ Asleep or dead..." I honestly took me a while to get such a clear lyric. Basically, in AmiJAne terms, Gerard looks back on when he found the girl he loved and wakes up and thinks those words to himself. The fact the Gerard Way doesn't believe he'll ever fall in love makes this part even stronger to some. He realizes that it will happen and when it does, he'll be like, oh s**t, and speak the words he swore he never would..."I love you."

    Thanks
    ~AmiJane~

myartofdrowning, I think your thinking of I Don't Love You. This song has nothing to do with Gerard's spit up what so ever! It's about death! DEATH!!! Listen to the lyrics! "Asleep or Dead!" Famous Last Words is probably about The Patient at the end of his guidance with The Black Parade or about the final words and minutes of his life. This song makes me think of my Great-Uncle because he went exactly through cancer and death. And the album came out when he had Cancer and two months before his death!!! Sad cowinsidence. :( *tear

i believe this song is about him finally accepting his death he realizes that there is nothing he can do or say to change this part. then I believe after this he says so many bright lights that cast a shadow but can I speak I think he has finally started to acend or decend to heaven or hell. And that scares him so he starts talking about his old life. And realizes he had liked that better. I am not afraid to keep on living I am not afraid to walk this world alone he is saying he wants to go back and he doesn't mind if he's left all alone and he's determined that noone can say or do anything to stop him going home

i know exactly why this was written

it was because mikey has bipolar desease and was gonna leave the band in the process of them recording. gerard was angry and upset and wrote an song named famous last words. aparently the original lyrics were very angry and agressive. However when mikey came back the lyrics were changed into a song with more hope than anything

Gerard wants everyone to not be afraid to live their life no matter what challenges are along the way... That's famous last words in about 20 words...

Glad to see there are other people here that are seeing deeper into all this...
With all that Gerard and the guys have stated about the making of this album, or DURING the making of it, I find this and several other songs on this album to be very revealing.
The thought that this album is all about "the patient" is very romantic, isn't it? And it's obviously working for them. But the truth is, most of these songs are much more personal and closer to them than you may can imagine.
Several major incidents happened during the time of preparing and making this piece of work (their best so far). Do you honestly believe they couldn't bring those things with them into these songs?
These incidents could be seen as terminal conditions, or definitely, inevitable conclusions to certain things in their lives. There is a strong tone of reluctant acceptance throught this album.
Think about what they have talked about in some of the interviews they've given and then you'll start seeing these songs totally opposite of what you were originally told to see them as.

I think the message of the song is "LIVE YOUR LIFE TO THE FULLEST"

Whatever problems you encounter will test your ability to solve it. This determines your strength, your determination as said in the song "I am not afraid to keep on living" is purely words of courage and determination, to cope up in what you lack and to enrich what you have.

You don't know when you're going to die. I mean, as early as now, fix your life. All of the things you do will reflect on what would you possibly end up in the after life.

The comfort shared with peers, family and others will be nothing, because in the end.... You will face your creator ALONE... Who know's where you'll go in the end? so... be PREPARED...

i think the songs deals about someone who is dying(the ligts blinded him)
because he have committed suicide and at this right moment when his soul is leaving his body(that is why he feels so weak)he realizes he does not feel affraid to keep on living...or to walk alone in this world as he felt while he was alive...but now is too late to come back even though he says to the death ....Nothing you can say can stop me going home.he wants to come back but he can not

I read an interview with Gerard
And the "Honey if you stay.." bit was apparently about leaving his girlfriend, who he'd been with for 6 years.
He said that it was almost like marriage, and leaving it was heart breaking.
He changed the lyrics just before recording.
So I guess its just about how hard it was for him.
    I don't know about you.
But I think this song is immense.
As good as it gets :)

*the one about Mcr afraid they're not getting there message through makes sence
*I was talking to my cousin and he had his ipod and was listening to teenagers. (He has only teenagers and welcome to the black parade on it by them and said he only liked teenagers b/c it's a catchy song)
*When I went off in a rant and told him it was about the teen shootings, he froze up and looked at me like I was crazy.
*The point: I can understand where that interpretation came from, because this event made me mad (You sing the words but still don't know what they mean)
*Gerard started the band to do something with his life and to make music for people to hear and understand - to get a point across. Now people label them as emo, or they're trying to make people hurt themselfs and they're getting slammed downed b/c they make songs about teenshootings, death, cancer, prison rape, teenage pregnancy- and they're afraid they're message isn't getting through -it makes sense if you think about it

I believe that this song is about The Patients spouse dying. When you listen to the lines "I am not afraid to keep on living, I am not afraid to walk this world alone" means that if she dies, he is not afraid to move on.

Its about Mikeys depression and Gerard wrote it with Ray because he was scared for Mikey. It's saying that he wants him to come back and get better so everything will be okay. I read it in a few million interviews.

I think its more literally about their own lives than anything else.

'I am not afraid to keep on living, I am not afraid to walk this world alone'.

how they've lost friends and made fake friends through fame, and that they feel like they live in some kind of bubble because people either think a)oh my god its MCR, they rock! and are all fangirlish, or b)oh my god its MCR, they suck! and are just hateful. Its them basically saying they have lost friends and a lot of other things through fame, but that they're finally comfortable in their own skin, even if it means they have to live in a solitary way.

'so many bright lights they cast a shadow, but can I speak?'

saying how they're supposedly adored by all these kids, but that they're scared their real message isn't getting through. That the message is lost behind the image. The spotlight's on them, but is anyone really listening?

'these bright lights have always blinded me'

they never asked for this fame, and they're scared of what might happen to them because of it, but they're not going to show they're scared for the sake of their fans, who look up to them so much 'MCR saved my life'

they're not giving up on the fans, no matter how much they sometimes feel like they want to.
