I think this song means that...the boy is asking if the girl HAD ever loved him...cause it says I don't love you like I loved you yesterday...like she loved him yesterday..and yesterday means when they are still together... That means the girl didn't love the boy when they are still together but maybe only liking...

Duh, it's about not feeling the same way for someone you once loved. Title - self explanatory...

I read somewhere that this song was about Gerard's fall out with Bert.

I'm probably wrong though.

One more thing, this song came out as a single at the exact same time that I fell out of love with a boy because he was really horrible to me. It was probably a coincidence, but I think that's kind of weird.

In My opinion yall are looking too deep. It's not about alcohol or and abusive relationship. I think it is about the patient and his boxing career. "Another dollar is is just another blow" blow as in hitting in a boxing match. And how he says "take your gloves and go". Its as in boxing gloves. The story is thru the girls eyes pleading for him to end his career. An she's sayin he doesn't have the guts to say he loves her in the same way because he's giving her up for boxing.

another example is "sometimes I cry so hard from pleading so sick and tired off all the needless beating" could it be that she's cried and pleaded for him to stop his boxing cause he's getting hurt for pointless reasons. The fix your eyes part is talking bout how boxers always have swollen eyes and stuff.

"baby when they knock you out that's where you outta stay"...like K.O and if he stays down he'll lose and that's what she wants so he'll quit

This song is about two things to me...

A] Gerard Way getting over his addition to alcohol and learning no to love it as the days go on.

or

B] a guy who used to abuse his girl and says she can leave whenever she wants but he is trying to change his ways for him and he is asking her if she leaves will she still love him even though what he's done to her, and if she doesn't would she even be able to tell him that....

I've listened to this song way too many times and these r pretty much the only two things this song could be about....

I'm not so much loving the metaphor theory. It just sounds literal. and the video doesn't help promote that either.

but we need to keep in mind that this is still part of the rock opera. So if it is a metaphor maybe it means the patientas a smoker or something. and that's how he got cancer

Gerard Way said that it's about The "Patient" looking back on his life and the mistakes he has made.

I believe this song is about mostly the same as other people think. A girlfriend telling a boy she doesn't love him anymore, but it's not about prostitution. The line "another dollars just another blow" means he feels hurt that she's only in it for the money or that he's so hurt that she doesn't love him anymore. He's resorted to drugs or marijuana and is spending all his hard earned money on it so every dollar he makes is just another puff he takes.

Well I think it just has to do with a relationship that won't go anywhere and he's so sick of wanting to tell her but when he says " I don't love you like I did yesterday " and since he can't find that nerve so she leaves him broken hearted, and he asks her to have the guts to say " I don't love you, like I loved you yesterday "

This is about someone (let's say a girl) who is being left alone by someone. Her lover knows it's best for her, but still leaves without a second glance. The abandoned cries out, telling him that if he has the courage, to say he doesn't love her anymore.

I think that the guy in the song has turned into a complete shadow of the man he used to be for whatever reason.
He doesn't have the guts to say it himself, but by being a complete dickhead to her, he secretly wants her to leave him for her own good and to have a better life with out him. He tries to push her away - but she just sticks by him, through all the bullshit and hurt he is causing her, because she knows he needs her. "You're still a good for nothing I don't know." - I think he is saying this to her, but really meaning it say it to himself. He knows what he is dong is wrong, but he is so messes up he does it anyway.

It's the paitent thinking about his love life. He thinks of all the things that happened..but he concentrates on the arguments he's had with her. The song gets more agressive the more he thinks about it. I heard that somewhere...and I think that's the actual meaning.

I think that it could possibly be describing the pent up rage or total spite of the patient towards his wife as he lays in his death bed.

"he secretly wants her to leave him for her own good and to have a better life with out him. He tries to push her away - but she just sticks by him, through all the bullshit and hurt he is causing her, because she knows he needs her"

I agree with this. By the tone, I can't help but feel it is somewhat a bittersweet love/romance song. To shield her from the pain which is all he has left to give. The pain, not the shield. His last and greatest act of love to her is to send her away. Which, if the above interpretation is correct, makes this a brilliant song. The meaning is just about contradictory to the lyrics of the chorus. I think some may be taking the boxing gloves too literally. Even with the picture of gloves, the it still seems to random.
I believe the gloves are a metaphor for a fighter. The one who fights for this relationship to succeed. Every time he knocks her down, he wishes she won't get back up, that she won't fight for them anymore. Reflecting once again on the above interpretation.
Notice that if the analogy of the cancer patient and the wife is correct then it adds more meaning to the interpretation and complements it well. As he's dieing, all he has left to give is pain, so he tries to chase her away, to shield her, because he loves her. He wants her to move on, to tell him that she doesn't love him anymore, that would just make it easier for everyone. If she doesn't love him he can't cause her anymore pain, If he can't cause her pain, then he can't cause himself pain. As mentioned above "because she knows he needs her" That's why he asks if she has the guts to turn and say, because she knows what he's trying to do, and if it ends that way where she does leave, knowing why, can she turn and lie to him? Can she really tell him that she's leaving because she doesn't love him anymore

I think it's possible that it's about an abusive relationship. In a lot of other songs, the Patient thinks of himself as a horrible person who regrets a lot of past wrongs, and abuse could be one of them. Also, this wouldn't make sense with the whole abuse interpretation, but he could be talking to himself the whole time, saying, you should have the guts to say I don't love you...

I, personally, think the song is about a guy (maybe Gerard?) trying to get over someone. He really liked the person, but they broke his heart. So, he's trying to tell himself that he no longer loves them, thinking if he says it enough, it will be true. When she leaves, he asks her 'when you would you have the guts to say I don't Love You like I loved you yesterday?' That's his way of making sure that she no longer loves him, so that he can somehow find a way to get over her. this is just what I think, you dont have to think the same thing, and sorry if u dont like what i think, :)
