Gerard was on his way to work as his job in animation in NYC when he saw the plain crash into the World Trade Center. It is said that he saw bodies falling from teh buildings. After this he quit his job and started MCR and this was their first song.

Gerard Was on a ferry on the way to work in New York when 9/11 happened. After seeing the bodies fall he decided he wanted to do something with his life that could help other people as well as himself, so he started MCR. Skylines And Turnstiles was their very first song and was Gerard's way of getting over 9/11. :]
