I don't really think it's about war, maybe it is, but maybe it isn't. Maybe that's just the video.

My personal opinion is that it's about losing someone and not having enough time 'And all the things that you never ever told me/And all the smiles that are ever ever' About never seeing someone you love smile, or them never telling you something, or you never told them something. I think it's about the regrets you get when someone you love dies and never having enough time with them, missing them and not seeing them again.

I think the 'Never coming home' part is saying you're never coming back, which also means you won't be able to create anymore memories.

The song is basically about losing someone. The theme of war was used because wars really bring out the essense of losing the people you love.

The song is about loss and the fear of losing someone who's close to you. And it also touches on how hard it is to lose someone. It's kind of similar to "Helena."

I think this song is about loss and losing sombody who you loved very much and the fact that they are gone. It could be a family member or a lover or a friend. Either way, the song is about loss. They chose the theme of war because many people lost loved ones and friends, that's why they chose the theme of the video that they did.

This song is definitely about loss. It could be anything, from the loss of a lover, to a friend, loss of a family member or even losing someone in the war, although that may just be the video idea. It can be interpreted for many different ways of loss. There is no one interpretation, especially for a song like this one.

The song, although appropriate for war, is not about war. The song is about losing a loved one and having regrets for not saying enough and only having memories. The is apropriate for war because the original release date of the CD was June 8, 2004. Two days after June 6, 2004, the 60th anniversary of D-Day. If you didn't notice the war in the film is a representation of D-Day, the invasion of Normandy, during World War II.

I agree that this song can be interpretated many ways, but they way it is by Gerard is that the song is about loss, and how hard it is to lose someone.

I think it's about losing someone you love, and also thinking about killing yourself to be with them again ("If I died, we'ed be together," and "Could I? Should I?"). Loss, and contemplation.

This song is how Gerard views the fear of losing someone just like the video he loses his brother.

I love this song. I think it is about losing someone- "If I died we'ed be together"
They'd be in heaven/nirvana/limbo/neverneverland together.
If you all believe in heaven/nirvana/limbo/neverland XP
I think they used war to show the loss, like almost everyone else has said. :)

I like this song for the fact that, as we've all managed to discover, is about loss. It can be applied to whomever or whatever you like - a wonderful artist's tactic, as someone stated above. Whatever they intended it to be about when they wrote it, they also layered in this lovely anonymity about the whole thing so that it could be applied to other situations.

My favorite thing about this song (besides the wonderfully possessed look in Gerard's eyes when they're in the bar) is the fact that the video is taken right out of the D-Day invasion scene from "Saving Private Ryan" - some parts are literally shot-for-shot, especially the stuff in the boat before they land. Check it out.

Yes this is about fear for losing a family member or friend. The song helena is about his grandmother ELENA, who passed away. gerard probably has the fear of losing someone again.

Um... ye so I think this song is about how hard it is to lose someone close to you. The reason war is mentioned is because gerard wanted to make a video about war. The song has nothing to do with war! lol luv me x x x

It's like when you lose (someone died) a family member, in this case his brother or girlfriend. That's what I think because in the video that's what they showed.

I think it is about how he goes off to war and he is married or in love and he is scared that he is going to die and never gonna see her again and he has been wounded and he is dying and he will never see her again and she has cheated on him and they are the lies and the ghost that will never catch him is enemy in war he was fighting they will nevver catch him

Omfg.... Whoever said it was about a war, they're dumb, don't listen to them, they'll rape you
the war is representing death
once you die you never come back
so there you have it

She`s right.

War represents death.
I doubt it`s about his grandmother.
He wouldn`t want to keep bringing it up.
I think it`s like how everyone`s like omg gerard lost his grandmother! But she was mikey`s grandmother aswell.
I think he just wants everyone to know that it`s hard on mikey aswell as anyone to deal with death.
