This song is about the patient. He dies and is welcomed into the black parade. While he is dying, he recalls his favorite memory from his life- his father taking him to a parade.

This song is obviously about a man whose father died of drugs, eg mariuana so his wife became a "widow" ("the plants that they have made", this means the plants of satan, marijuana and opium and coca and so on). The father said to the son not to take drugs ever in his live. The young man now is fighting against taking drugs himself, very thankful to his father that he warned him about drugs and remembering his funeral (The black parade). He finds help in his religion and his church. They make him strong in his eternal fight against drugs.

Gerard thinks death comes to everyone in different ways. The Patient's fondest memory was one of his father taking him to see a parade, so death came to him in the form of a parade. There you go. End of story.

Yes My Chemical Romance wanted it to seem that death comes to a man in the form of a parade, but that's their interpretation. The Black Parade is actually a parade of people marching through purgatory, straight to hell. And in the beginning of the song, it says how the father of a little child asked him to be in the black parade. This means that the child who was taken to the Black Parade was abused by his father. So abused to the point where his father would actually be proud of his son if he were to join the Black Parade and burn in hell.

Its a song telling people not to be afraid of death. In the shadow of death people worry about if they'll be remembered, if their loved ones can handle themselves well and some others are just to afraid to go through all the pain. It encourages the 'damned' to fight with courage and the ones still living 'to be the chair for all the broken ie. To support them.
I don't think this has anything to do with Jesus. It more like forget Jesus and fight your own battles with courage and hope.Which I feel compelled to add is a very wrong thing to say.

I think it's about a bunch of different things in Gerard way's life because it seems to have so many meanings. Maybe it was like, he took his diary, went to the studio, and the band made an awesome song just after reading it through.

I think this is about the struggle of a new messiah (the patient), who remembers how his father (the old messiah) has passed his duties on to him, when he was young, because his father knew he was not going to make it by himself and would die (and thereby join the black parade). So this son is now in serious trouble as well, but this memory somehow gets him back on his feet again. So he continues to walk in this nomansland that represents his current state of mind and condition, closely followed by the death parade. The singer is acting as a herold of his "widow"-church, who is desperately trying to get him back into life, but even if he fails to do so assuring him, that they will carry on, even without him to lead them.

"After learning of his illness, reflecting on his life, and dealing with all the issues of mortality, the Patient's own mortality is quickly coming to an end. This illness is most likely heart cancer, since many references at cancer are made throughout the album, and in Dead!, the doctors tell the Patient "they found a complication in your heart". Here the Patient is drifting between life and death, and so death is coming for him in the form of his strongest memory. The Patient's fondest memory is of his father taking him to town as a boy to see a parade ("when I was a young boy, my father took me into the city, to see a marching band"). The Patient's father asks him as a boy "Son, when you grow up, would you be the savior of the broken, the beaten, and the damned?", perhaps preparing the Patient for his future illness, and asking him if he will have what it takes to mentally overcome it and be an example for others who follow in his footsteps to be strong. The Patient's father also tells him "someday I'll leave you a phantom, to lead you in the summer, to join the Black Parade." This hints that the Patient's father most likely died before the Patient, and will help him join the Black Parade (in other words be there when he dies to help him in the afterlife). The song also shows that the Patient most likely had a very good relationship with his father, since his fondest memory in life occured when he was with his father. This may be the opposite of the relationship he has with his mother, which is further detailed in the song "Mama". However, the band has stated that "Mama" represents Mother War, a mother who lost her child(ren) in war. She also represents loss, and so may simply be another figure in the Black Parade.

The Patient passes into a realm of life and death, and sees the Black Parade. The Black Parade seems to take place in the city that he saw the marching band in his youth, only now the city is barren, and more macabre. He sees the performers of the Black Parade, only they too are more macabre than those of the parade he saw in his youth, and seem to represent emotions and other parts of his life. The Black Parade tell him of "the disappointed faces of your peers", which have no effect on the Patient, as he states he "could not care at all", showing he will no longer let anyone dictate his actions, and hasn't quite repented yet (as he does in Famous Last Words). He still doubts himself ("I'm just a man, I'm not a hero" in reference to his father's question at the beginning of the song). He is still firm in his doubt of the world ("you can try, you'll never break me"). Finally The Black Parade assures him that his "memory will carry on", and though he may be dead and defeated his "weary widow marches on." Thus trying to encourage him that he isn't as evil as he thinks, and that if he joins them what he leaves behind in life will be fine.

The song is visually represented by its music video. Some have argued that there is a flaw with the actor portraying the Patient, in that he is not bald, when most people who have cancer and go through chemo are bald. This however is not always the case, so its not necessarily a flaw."

I think it's about nazis the black parade being the "Black Army"(Nazis) and in the video the man keeps putting his arm up like the salute for the nazis

My personal opinion is that it's talking about the soldiers and the war and what the war is doing to us and to them.Also it's talking about remembering the dead soldiers and how we'll carry on their names in pride.

This is so totally obviously about the Civil Rights Movement. The black parade is a parade of black people. This is about Martin Luther King Jr.'s son. That's why he is killed in the summer and is now a phantom, and his widow still carries on. The whites' misery and hate will kill us all. "I could not care at all" if I die, because I won't give up and the world can't make me. I'm not going to apologize or be ashamed to be a black person. "You're a chair for all the broken" means MLK Jr. gave validation to our injuries from the fight. We know we aren't alone and that comforts us somewhat. We don't give a @#$% about the disappointed faces of the whites. The part about "she's" watching over me is just a typo.

I agree with all those who suggested that this is a military reference. I believe that "black parade" refers to all those who have fallen in war -- not THE war; not the current war-- just war in general, all wars.

Any my chem fan would already know that this song is about how death came to greet "the patient"...

this song means so much to me.

1st its mine and my best friend's song.

and 2nd if in the end death really does come to you as your fondest memory...

death will come to me as something to do with this song...

my fondest memory was when I 1st heard this song...

it was a very amazing thing that happend...
