Really? "this song is about how a character, the patient, is being led into death..." is not looking into the lyrics at ALL. Tha's what they are literally saying, yes, but the point is that it's not just a story about how death comes to you, etc. [Can't believe no one else figured this out but] it's really an anthem to the downfallen, the emo kids, the people that need saving. Note:
-'Won't explain, or say I'm sorry, I'm unashamed, I'm gonna show my scar' (I don't need to explain why I'm the way I am to you, I'm just going to be myself)
-"Do or die, you'll never make me, because the world, will never take my heart. Though you try, you'll never break me, we want it all, we wanna play this part" (You can't change who I am)
-"Son when you grow up, will you be, the savior of the broken, the beaten and damned?" (sort of self explanitory, saying that he plans to one day lead the broken)
-"A world that sends you reeling, from decimated dreams, your misery and hate will kill us all" (Bullies, teachers, parents, anyone who hates on you for being different)
-"So paint it black and take it back, let's shout it loud and clear, defiant to the end we hear the call, to carry on" (Paint it black? Be emo, punk, goth, etc., and be yourself freely)
The lyrics of this song are the real reason this song has so many fans, it's calling on it's emo listeners to be proud and brave as part of the black parade. Duh.

I think that this song discusses death in a very unusual way. In the beginning of the song, it talks about the narrator spending time with his father at a parade. Then, his father dies of unknown causes. The narrator talks about the death of his father and how he soon moves on to death, which is personified as a parade.
I think that it shows that every person sees death in a different way. Some in a happy way, celebrating life, and some in a sad way, bringing up death. In the narrators eyes, he views death as a parade because of his memories with his father.

I know this isnt actually what it means, but does anyone else think that it could be reffering to the holocaust? it
could be about a boy whose dad was taken away by the nazis; the black parade; and now the boy is joining the resistance. thats where the rest of the song would fit in. it was just an idea but does anyone agree?

Ready, at first what i thought was his father playing the role of God sent his son into the city to see the marching band called the black parade, taking place of a sinful world, and he said to save the broken beaten and damned, which were miss treated people in the world. Also he said something about "all those none believers and their plans" being none christians or "Believers in God" but now that i read all of the other interpretations that makes a lot more sense but that will always be what the song means to me.

This song actual goes deeper then gerard way lets on its about the father mostly who realizes that the son is going to be the hero in his story that he has to train him to destroy all the monsters that bet him in life and to carry on his fathers legocy and be the savior of all the unsaved.

I honestly think this is a song about a family's struggle with drug and alcohol abuse. The singer/patient...is recalling the good memories of his father by going into the city. However, his father is losing a fight with alcohol. The father wonders if his son will also become addicted and wonders if his son will defeat his demons, or fall victim to drug abuse. Later his father dies, and the son and his mother try to pick up the pieces. "although your dead and gone, your memory will carry on.." As the singer grows older he also falls victim to drug abuse and alcohol, which explains why he thinks "his mother is watching over him"
..he knows he needs to change, but can't. "though you try, you'll never break me".. and in the end the son gets close to death but makes a change. He remembers how and why his father died and he decides that he is going to change. o_O
