I don't think this song is meant to denounce Christianity. I think it is written as someone taking the role of a hero like in Spiderman, the film the song was for.
I am so high. I can hear heaven.
I am so high. I can hear heaven.
Oh but heaven, no heaven don't hear me.
He either is physically high from swinging between buildings or he feels high from having new abilities. He only thinks he can hear heaven, obviously heaven doesn't hear him because he is not dead.
And they say that a hero can save us.
(Mankind's long held belief that there is someone out there that can make everything better).
Im not gonna stand here and wait.
(I am not going to wait for someone to come along, but I will rise to the challenge and do it myself).
Someone told me love will all save us.
(If we leave it to mankind to love each other, everything will work out).
But how can that be, look what love gave us.
A world full of killing, and blood-spilling.
(Crime, murders, war, etc.)
That world never came.
(Peace doesn't come automatically, everyone must work for it and sometimes a hero is necessary).
Now that the world isn't ending, its love that I'm sending to you.
(Now that I have saved the world from whatever was threatening it, I now have time for my private life and loving someone).
It isn't the love of a hero, and that's why I fear it won't do.
(The one I love doesn't know I am the hero, and therefore I fear that it will not be good enough).

I have to say that when I first heard the song on Spiderman I thought it was obviously about Spiderman, but just five minutes ago I heard the song and I was listening to the words and I thought of the exact same thing about Christianity as the anonymous guy above. So I came on line to see if anyone thought of it before, and I guess it has been thought of before. I am not sure that the writer attempted to do this. But I would say its fairly probable to say that Nickelback is NOT a Christian band. DUH. And Satan could easily use secular music by distorting the meaning to get into peoples minds. I am not slamming secular music but I think people when listening to secular music should realize what they are putting into their minds.

Its about how you cant always save the ones you love, while there are super hero refferences throughout, that may not be the central theme here. I simply think that its as much about how, no matter how hard we try, not everythings going to work out fine.

(Soldier's Interpretation)
I am so high. I can hear heaven.
I am so high. I can hear heaven.
No heaven, no heaven don't hear me.
(The singer is a soldier waiting in an aircraft.)
And they say that a hero can save us.
(Humankind's eternal belief that someone can save the world.)
Im not gonna stand here and wait.
I'll hold onto the wings of the eagles.
Watch as we all fly away.
(The singer is not willing to wait while everything falls.)
Someone told me love will ALL save us.
(Let love work everything out.)
But how can that be, look what love gave us.
A world full of killing, and blood-spilling
That world never came.
(To stare into a scarred, war-torn future and to realize there is no hope.)
Now that the world isn't ending, its love that Im sending to you. (The bloodshed is over and that leaves him to more pleasant activities, like to write to a girlfriend back home.)
It isn't the love of a hero, and that's why I fear it won't do.
(He is just another soldier, not a 'hero'.)

Well I think the writer was going to a religious side here. I think it's about jews, believing in the antichrtist as a hero they're waiting for...and him -as a christian- is not gonna stand here and wait(for their hero) he's going to hold on to the wings of the eagles leaving to heaven as he's hearing it while he's high and watching as love fly away from earth as it's ending with the hands of their so called 'hero'. end
