This song was written about Tracy. They had been arguing and fighting, and basically it's his way of saying he still loves her. "I can see you every night, free" was taken straight from an argument he and Tracy had. "I need an easy friend" he needs her, "I do with an ear to lend" he needs her to listen, "I do think you fit this shoe" he thinks that she's the one that can help and listen to him, "I do, won't you have a clue" he's asking if she realizes how much she means to him.
The story of how they got the name of the song is a good one so I'll just put it out there. Kurt wrote the song and showed to Chad and Krist, they liked it and asked what it was called Kurt said he hadn't given it a name yet so Krist asked "what's it about?", Kurt replied "It's about a girl" and then they decided it would be called About A Girl.

When I first heard song I thought ''Its about a prostitute''. I need an easy friend EASY. He doesnt say '' I can see you every night free'' He's saying But I cant see you every night free . You need to pay for the company of a prostitute. Im standing in your line He's on the line of clients waiting for a prostitute. I'll take advantage while, you hang me out to dry He is patiently waiting for her so he can '' keep his date with her''. He's in love with a prostitute and she doesnt know. I do wont you have a clue?
