The girl is with another boy and he loves her and he knows that she deserves better, that he can love her more.
"Cause i cant look you in the eyes and say"
She is so beautiful to him that he can't even find the words to finally tell her what he feels.
"If I am louder, would you see me? would you lay down, in my arms and rescue me?"
If i raise my voice, if i tell you what i feel, if I make it clear would u care, would u love me back? would you be with me?

He knows she they are made for each-other, that she his his other better half. When she finally gets closer and they are together he feels better, he feels like she "saves" him, but when she is not there he feels empty again.

When he thinks he is ready to tell her, that she might just respond to his love, he sees her with the other guy and that breaks his heart and he feels like this can't be happening, prays for it not to be real.

He never told her how much she meant to him, never told her how much he needed her, but now he doesn't wanna lose her, he sees that things are getting to the next level with her boyfriend and he decides is time to tell have all he feels. She probably had to think about it so he will pray for her to see that he is the one, he can love her like she deserves that she will "see the light".
At the end she says with her old boyfriend and he just knows that he can love her more than that but he just have to stand everything, and live without her.
Well that's my interpretation, even though i hate the ending, she should have chosen "him" He can love her more than this <3 ZAYN -

I disagree with the previous interpetation.
I think the song is another song about a boy wishing to be with a girl, but she is already with somebody else, and it's driving him crazy because he knows she could feel loved SO MUCH more than she feels when with him. -

(This is only my opinion) This song could be a message from an old friend that has always loved this girl. This guy friend of her's could have been there for her through all her different boyfriends, and break ups that followed and all the tough times in her life. I believe that he is trying to tell her that all these guys aren't doing her good, and that he loves her and has been here all along. That he could treat her better, he understanders her more, can love her more.

I think that it means that a guy really is in love with this girl, but she is with someone else. He is saying, "If you come to me, I will love you more than anyone else, because I cant love you more than I do right now."

Some people have been very unobsevant and missed the fact it says "I CAN love you more than this". The song is told from a guy's Point of view as he longs for another girl, but unfortunately she is with someone else. By saying he can love her more than this, is referring to the current guy she is with and how he could treat her better. He wants to tell her, but she's to occupied with her boyfriend.

Anonymous on July 5th, I think you're kind of right. Everyone has different interpretations though.

Liam's part is saying that this girl has been on his mind so much that she is everything he thinks about and sees. He's praying that her heart will turn around and see that he is and has been there for her all alone. Harry's part and the chorus is about how when the girl's new boyfriend holds her it wont be right because she deserves the love that he can give her not what shes getting from her new guy. Niall's part is saying that if he tells her he loves her will she hear him. Will she accept his love. He says she is meant to be with him and she saved him but when she leaves him hes empty again. Louis's part says that when he sees her with her new boyfriend it hurts so much that he can't hold himself together. He prays that its not real. Zayn's part says that he's never told her how he feels but now that he sees her leaving him he wants her to stay with him. When she goes to bed that night he prays that she will see the "light" which is his love that's shining from the stars above them

This song is about them playing the friend in the relationship
In some relationships there are
1.Boyfriend (In love with gf)
2.Girlfriend (In love with bf)
3.Ex (Secretly trying to destroy the relationship)
4.Friend (Secretly hoping the relationship ends or fails)
And in this song they are playing the cowardly friend no affence to them
This friend hopes the relationship will end or fail so he can swoop in and be the comforting guy who is there for her and he does not take any sort of action and when the ex finds out the friend and the GF/BF are together he gets mad -

You are all dumb asses. It's about a boy who's having an affair with a girl who's already with someone else. But he fell in love with her & wants more than the affair hence he can love her more than this - "this" being just the boy on the side. But she won't leave the other guy but he still hopes that one day she'll realise his love for her. Whenever they're together they're happy but he gets sad everytime they part hence he asks her to stay a lil longer. It hurts him to see her with her bf or hubby or whoever.

I think they are saying "I can love you more than this" instead of "I can`t" because that would make more sence to the song: A boy loves a girl but she is with someone else, and the boy doesnt tell her because his afraid she might chose her boyfriend over him. But he knows he can love her more than her boyfriend does.
