Ozzy Osbourne: Mr. Crowley Meaning

Mr. Crowley Lyrics

Mr. Crowley, what went on in your head
Mr. Crowley, did you talk with the dead
Your life style to me seemed so tragic
With the thrill of it all
You fooled all the people with magic
You waited on Satan's call
Mr. Charming, did you think you...

As mentioned, Ozzy never wrote a word on Blizzard of Ozz; Bob Daisley did, as well as Geezer Butler did Sabbath. Bob Daisley
    is the one to ask...

I read an article that stated that Ozzy received a note from Jimmy Page of Led Zepplin fame that ended with the salutation of, "polemically sent". Ozzy having no clue what polemically means wrote back to Page and asked him. In response Page sent him Alieter Crowley's book entitled MAGICK. The book is full of witchcraft. Anyway,Ozzy became intrigued with Crowley and thus you end up with the song. I have also read that Page went on to buy one of Crowley's old houses. By the way the term polemically comes from the Greek word polemikos which means out of war or with controversy.

Without Bob Daisley's lyric writing abilities and Randy's awesome guitar work, the first two Ozzy albums would have tanked. Google Bob Daisley and see for yourself that he is the author of both albums. Ozzy couldn't write during his Sabbath years (Terry "Geezer" Butler) wrote all of the lyrics for Sabbath, and still can't write today. He puts his name as co-writer for all or most of his songs, but it's not true.

Now, I'm not an Ozzy hater. I have all of Black Sabbath's and Ozzy's solo albums in my collection. I'm just stating some facts here for those who don't know. Bob Daisley and Randy Rhodes created Ozzy's first two records which were his best by far. Peace!

It's about Aleister Crowley (Spelling on first name probably not right. Ozzy was accused of being a satanist, although he was not, he decided to do a song about someone who was: Aleister Crowley. Throughout the song, Ozzy infused it with both subtle religious references, as well as demonic ones.

I think it's about Ozyy trying to get something, like love or attention. But out of nowhere this guy,Crowley comes in and without doing anything,he gets what Ozzy was struggling for.But Ozzy knows Crowley's little plans to win the whole time.Look at "You fooled all the people with magic"and "mr. Charming"

    Crowley/Osbourne
High Ranking members of the World Wide Secret Society of Freemasonry/OTO,Spying,Espionage and other activities.
Maybe a distant relative of Sharon or Oz,anything is possible in the Zionist run music Biz.
Sharon Arden(Ozbourne):Her father Don Arden was an Ashkenazi Jew; the Ashkenazi Jews are believed to have descended from a Jewish community living in the Rhineland in Medieval times. Osbourne thus is of Jewish descent; she like her father has made a flourishing career in music promotion and also made a successful transition in to television; she was named as the 44th richest woman in the UK by the Sunday Times Rich List 2006.

    Ok you're all wrong.

this song is about a man named Aliester Croweley, and he was a British practioner of black magick in the early 1900's.

When Crowley was born they scattered the afterbirth because he had a birthmark shaped like a swastika. Ozzy sings about it in the line "They scattered the afterbirth."

Ozzy's album Diary Of A Madman is named after Crowley's autobiography. When he mentions a white horse that is a drug reference because Mr. Crowley was a known user of opium.

Okee, well thats all I know about this one.:)

The White Horse is a reference to the Noyes Perfectionist. Mr. Crowley use to visit the Noyes Mansion.

Again, many fine interpretations, but here's the real one, and from the horse's mouth. There was an old geezer that used to live down the street from Ozzy who was kind of a lunatic - he would go berserk if you even looked at him for more than a second. He would whip rocks and chase any and all intruders away from his crappy old house. Well, you guessed it, his name was Mr. Crowley. He once beaned Ozzy in the noggin so Ozzy said, "I'll effing show that old bugger", an he wrote that song.

It was about Aleister Crowley, who, in fact, was a drug addict. Yes it's true.

The reference to the white horse is infact, not drugs.
The bible states (I am very athiest) "behold the pale horse, for the man who rides on him was death, and hell be followed with him."
Everyone viewed him as an anti-christ and a spawn of satan. This is not how it was at all.
He died an outcast, very lonely, and unable to believe in anything at all under the confusion.
"your lifestyle to me seemed so tragic, with the thrill of it all"

    I believe that "Mr.Crowley"
was about Aleister Crowely & cocaine
If you look up Aleister Crowely in wikipedia.org
    it says that
"Crowley was a habitual drug user and also maintained a meticulous record of his drug-induced experiences with laudanum, opium, COCAINE, hashish, alcohol, ether, and heroin."
and maybe the whole "white horse" thing was about cocaine but some of the others had a point that maybe it had a little something to do with the "white horseman"
or he might've been comparing Aleister Crowely with the white horseman
I'm gonna do more research on this.

Ozzy once said in an interview that at the time of the blizzard sessions there were Crowley cards laying about, and he began to become interested in knowing more about
this man. (Crowley).Bob Daisley did write all the lyrics
as did Gezzer Butler with Sabbath.Ozzy is a singer, and nothing more.....

The whole problem here is that Ozzy can, obviously, not string a sentence together (and BTW, I am a fan.) It was Bob Daisley who wrote these lyrics, and most of Ozzy's 80's lyrics. Then - what a shock - Bob left the band and all of a sudden Motorhead's Lemmy (a self-confessed alcoholic)is writing or cowriting lyrics. But back to Mr Crowley. Yes so called Satanist Alastaire Crowley. Yes he appeared on the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper album cover. And yes, most song lyrics are very dangerous to be taken literally. Look at Suicide Solution. Some idiot did not know what the song was about (alcoholism) and killed himself. Now - tell me that classical music/opera is more wholesome. You can't, can you? Eg...Sweeney Todd, a barber slashes his customer's throats and stuffs their fucking gizzards into pies. So don't blame Ozzy, don't blame Bob, don't blame Rock N Roll (it's here to stay lol).

One final thing - as an artist, you create "art" to express yourself. So if someone has a problem, then it's all good that they express it thru art, not Murder or Suicide!

    Take care,

Mr. Crowley Is about Aleister Crowley. But if you look up www.ozzyhead.com and read Ozzy's song meanings, it says it is about a man who practices Black Magic.

Right. I think all of the previously posted thoughts are great but I thought I'd throw mine in here too. Here goes: I've been researching the lyrics of Stairway to Heaven by Led Zepplin for some months now. Go to albinoblacksheep.com and search Led Zepplin backward lyrics... you'll see what I mean. Anyway, the backward lyrics are based on Mr. Crowley's old residence, the Boleskin house. What's odd, though, is that it's been said that Jimmy Page took only 5 minutes to write the song, and he was sitting in the particular house. Now I'm getting off topic. It's clear to me that the song is indeed about Aleister Crowely and his rather dedicated thoughts and, shall I say, love for Satan. The whole White Horse thing is most likely about the white horseman during the apocolypse. I'm going to continue my research on both of these songs.

I'm not so sure about the "White Horse" being symbolic of Cocaine, it's possible, of course, but a more literal symbolic translation would probably say it refers to the "White Horseman" of the apocalypse, who rides the White Horse and takes 1/4 of the earth's population during judgement day.

The White Horse itself may or may not be a symbol for Jesus, but I frankly don't think Ozzy was going quite THAT deep, to allude to the person that's alluded to by the symbol that he alludes to in the song, if that even makes any sense :-P

This song is about cocaine, but all the messages are covered up by telling a story of Mr. Crowley. For example: "Did you ride my white horse, its symbolic of course." Look at the lyrics.

While touring with Black Sabbath, a roadie was showing off a book Jimmy Page had given him by Aleister Crowley, signed "Ptolemically yours", and Ozzy wanted to know why so many people at that time were obsessed with Crowley.
